LOL. Yeah, my wife doesn't like onions too much (though she found the recipe intriguing). We actually seem to get regular drops of Schlenkerla, so more than likely that part of the recipe would go off without a hitch. It does sound pretty delicious otherwise (my wife likes meat and potatoes just fine, fortunately).

I had to Google it and I watched the video of the preparation, so come September, I'm ready. It looks delicious.

It was recommended to me by "tourists" at our table from... (wait for it) ... Berlin.

I had to look it up, too- they look great!

Schlenkerla has some recipes on their site including the onion and their pork knuckle.

My local German restaurant has the Schlenkerla Marzen on tap occasionally (and on Father’s Day this year!). Alas, no Bamberg onion.

I forgot to post this then…better late than never

Drinking some Hammerheart Von Winterherz Verhasst Smoked Hefeweizen after bottling up a batch of mead. Should have rinsed out the glass!

Nice mildly sweet hefe with smoke in the finish.

I haven't had many in my time, but I came across this 4.8% Kemuri Smoked Porter today, my ninth from Toronto's extraordinary Godspeed Brewery. It was exceptional! With Gracie, in my lady Pamela's artist studio, where she lets me keep my around-400-different-beer stash... =)

Cheers, from McGregor, Ontario...and the Responsible Beer Drinking Club! =)

I should've posted this last week, but what the heck, I still have an appreciation for smoked beer.

This is Grodzilla, a tasty grodziskie from Baerlic Brewing of Portland, OR. It's dry and light, with an appetizing smoke character that is delicate and clean. A fine example of an uncommon style.

I had a smoked beer or two years ago, but not since joining BA. I wanted to try one of these Rauchbiers recently, and they usually carried them at a local German Restaurant I visited, the Rathskeller.
The bartender told me when they get some in stock, they sell out quickly.
Something you don’t see very often.

This Chuckanut Rauch Helles really hit the spot last night.

Hammerheart released some beer this week, this is a nice smoked dunkelweizen called Dunkelwald:

Nice banana in the background, smoke in the finish. Tasty stuff!

Appearance: Clear dark gold, good head.

Smell: A bit of smoke, and what I think is wild rice-grainy, earthy.

Taste: A bit of sweetness, then the browned rice comes in afterwards. Medium bodied. Mild smoke through the middle and in the finish.

Overall: Always pumped to see a new Hammerheart release, this is a “Laurentian Pilsner” with wild rice and smoked beechwood malt. It's pretty solid, there is smoke but not over-the-top, and the wild rice gives an interesting flavor.

Love this beer, and buy it whenever I can find it which, sadly, hasn’t been often!

Have long been a fan of Aecht Schlenkerla brews — especially Lentbeer, Erle, and Weichsel — and have also in the past enjoyed Wolf’s Ridge Buchenrauch, Thirsty Dog Rail Dog Smoked Black Lager, and Live Oak Schwarzer Rauch, as well as the Alaskan Smoked Porter mentioned by @Mdog . Reading through this whole thread convinces me I have a whole lot more smoked beers to seek out and try — thanks to all!

I think there are few things tastier than a Bourbon Brown Sugar Smoked Pork Loin paired with a good Schlenkerla!
