I've been pouring beer incorrectly this whole time!

Now you tell me. Maybe someday the manager will change and my ban will be lifted...

Without knowing where you were from, I immediately recognized you as a Brewer fan, and that gave you immediate credibility with me . Then I saw you used Moosehead (which I hope is a good thing, because I enjoy it), and it confirmed my (now large) gut feeling. Cheers, nice video!

...I usually start with a slight angle then tilt the glass for a straight pour while slowly elevating the bottle of can to increase the dynamic of the pour...then stop pouring when I think the head will overflow (it's a learned judgement thing), wait for the head to settle, then top off the glass with another straight, gentler pour...

...as long as the beer itself is conducive to producing lasting foam, the head usually turns out quite nicely...and, yes, I think it improves aroma as well the mouthfeel plus a generally fine looking glass of beer...

...now, if there is a beer where I don't want the sediment in my glass (e.g., unfiltered and bottled conditioned beers), I still will pour aggressively pour initially, but when the container is just over halfway empty, then I'll basically begin a slow pour to keep the beer as clear as I can in the glass...

CAMRA and the London publicans are collectively groaning over that 1" head.

If i pour straight down, i'll be a bit more gentle with the pour. This is as opposed to if i pour down the side, especially toward the end, I will raise the bottle/can up a bit from the glass to generate more head.
6 one way, half a dozen the the other?

I suppose you could conduct a side-by-side tasting and see for yourself.

Take that same beer and pour it into two glasses using your two pouring methods and see if you perceive a sensory difference between the two glasses of beer.

There is a side-by-side tasting thread where you can report your findings.

    Cheers to exBEERiments!

Then I highly recommend they not pour it that way. I thought it was quite tasty. :grimacing:

Oh, they won't. Gotta fill that imperial print to the rim or the customers will revolt!

BTW -- did you try it with different pours to see if it was any less, or more, tasty?

I did. And found the pour down the middle to be preferable. Complete with the 1" head.

I dunno, I kind of want to try an Imperial Print now.

On my way to have some Paulaner Marzen and Schlenkerla Rauchbier on draft.

Hahaha. Yeah this place knows what they’re doing. Enjoyed that, Ayinger Celebrator and Weihenstephan’s Fest. Then finished House of Guiness.

Had H-P on draft the night before, they’re the same beer haha. Delicious though!

    OK.....umm......how shall I phrase this........

I'll never say no to some head but there's a point where it becomes a matter of.......

I wanted a beer, NOT a glass of foam.......

1" or a little more, fine, 1/3rd of the glass? Nope.

I wanted a beer, NOT a glass of foam.
