What Beer Are You Drinking Now? #4758

I've stayed away from a lot of Belgians lately just because I'm trying to stick to the lower ABV beers, so it's been a while since I've had some of those I mentioned before. But this one got me in the compare and contrast mood, which is always the fun part of drinking beer to me. In this group, I have the Westmalle and St. Bernardus rated a little higher. Have not had the La Fin Du Monde you mention. I willing to "take one for the team" to do a blind comparison. Gotta get those rating worked out properly, you know.

 

Of all the antibiotics I have ever taken, only one warned no alcohol. That was for a GI infection. Made me think alcohol alone could have solved it.

As has been mentioned over the last few days, Jack DeJohnette passed away this week. Actually a little surprised at all the others here paying remembrance as well, which is why I love this thread and people that post here...In my opinion one of the three great drummers along with Tony Williams and Elvin Jones (of course there are more great drummers, but those are the tops for me ha).

So, with that said, Sierra Nevada Pale Ale in the glass...

And the Gateway band, with Jack DeJohnette, John Abercrombie, and Dave Holland. One of my favorites. This is their first album with this band name, and its very much in the fusion realm.

 

New Glarus Bubbler (4.0%): A Hefeweizen from Wisconsin with flavors of orange, fruity yeast and juicyfruit with bubblegum, banana, and spices. Clean.

One of the best hefeweizens from US with New Glarus, among their many outstanding beers. Not an easy style to do well, but this is near perfect. Amazing complexity and robust flavors. Shocked it's at only 4.0% ABV. It's among the most underrated beers from New Glarus one of the best sub 5% beers of all time. This is great time during the fall season for a release and I will also drink well into The Holidays. One of the best.

 

This is excellent. I'll have to grab another before they're all gone.

 

I would guess I have not had that beer in 6 or so years. How is it now?

Thanks! Yep - that long haired mug on the left would be me - my older brother Frank on the right (it will be 20 years since he passed coming up in a few weeks in November) - hard to imagine that photo was taken nearly 50 years ago now....jeez!

I went back to the store and grabbed the last 2 of these $13 cases of beer, because when am I EVER going to see beer that cheap again? Never!
It's really not too bad. Not world class, but definitely quaffable.

So, I'll be drinking these for some time to come.

Tripels are super sneaky with the ABV.. gotta be careful! I haven't had St Bernardus in a long time.. but Westmalle is def. up there with the best of the bunch. La Fin Du Monde is the most distinct for me, flavor-wise. Cheers and enjoy your exploration in Tripels.
