I remember when Whole Foods in Downtown LA opened the had a party to celebrate them getting 2 cases of KBS.

Now that surprises me. There were small grocery stores in PDX that had stacks of the stuff when it first came into town. They completely over estimated it's likely popularity. Same with CBS... Belmont Station had cases and cases of the stuff, with a 3 bottle per person purchase limit when it first arrived. Little did they know they'd be selling bottles at their cost just a few months later.

In retrospect, maybe your downtown LA Whole Foods was fortunate.

Interestingly here CBS has never shelf turded, but Bourbon County definitely has for a few years now.

I spoke too soon. CBS is showing up on the website of the 'other' favorite store here in town. Thursday is usually the delivery day for Founders beers here in town, so I'm guessing they received it today.

Both have had problems selling out here. One of the local beer bars has taken to holding onto bottles of BCBS for a couple of years and then selling them as a cellar selection (out of season). Even then it takes weeks to sell, but it DOES eventually sell.

I was very surprised by the reaction to the CBS. I remembered well it's popularity back East, so I left early from work on release day so I'd be sure to get my three bottles. I expected a line out the door when I arrived at Belmont Station. When I arrived there was no line (to my delight), and the store had a stack of 50 cases (of bombers). For whatever reason, the beer wasn't a hit. It was a bit expensive for the time (I think around $25 or $26), but I really don't think that was the problem. It just wasn't a popular beer and never has been.

I remember playing hooky off work to line up outside of Binnys when they opened at 9am to snag a CBS bomber. I guess we live in privileged times nowadays. Abundance for all.

My nephew just spotted 2025 CBS 4 packs in a liquor store out in rural western Maryland (town of Lavale…near Frostburg and Cumberland) . I’m sure if they dropped out in that distribution area, they be around most everywhere. My friends and I have been pulling out cellared bottles of CBS to drink every 6-12 months since last release. That beer is always delicious. Still one of my favorite stouts of any.

They quit packaging Red's Rye and only sell it on tap. Apparently that rye "bite" fades quickly and people were complaining that it was missing, that Founder's had changed the recipe. So they just don't sell it packaged any more.
Fun fact; it's been their biggest selling beer on tap at the mother ship for at least 7 years in a row.

I will assume that CBS will not show up in SoCal. We don't get any of the special releases anymore.

You might still be able to find the last release, at a low price.

Enjoying a CBS right now. Remembering on the last release, there was a kerfuffle about the language on the bottle hinting at artificial flavors wrt the maple. Did that change this time around? No change in taste that I can recognize. Still my favorite offering from them.

    im assuming this is sarcasm??

Obviously we had Reds Rye in bottles distributed across the country before Founders was sold to corporate… and I can’t say I heard a single person complain about it. Certainly never crossed my mind to complain about it.

but hey any excuse for the billion dollar corporations to make an extra .09% on their yearly revenue! “People don’t want it” “we can’t afford it (even though the independently owned breweries did it for years without issue, but now Heineken can’t afford it. Tony Magee could afford limited brews and barrel aging but Heineken just doesn’t have the money… they’re struggling to get by…got it?

They can’t get the loans to do it. They have to work with the couple thousand dollars they’ve got in their account. Right?

but hey… have you seen the new Hazy IPA?!? Or how about our CBS that we decided we couldn’t afford to make how it was designed to be made… so we just add some maple syrup and call it a day. Nobody will even notice!
what should we bring back next?!? Oh cool to hear your suggestions.. we’ll never do any of that but thanks for the comments! CBS is enough hype… that should do enough we won’t have to bring back anything else. One is enough.
