Thanks - simple and mostly hands off once you do the initial prep work, allowing me to relax with a beer while the oven does all the work

I picked this up at the brewery (Seedz Brewery in Union Pier MI when we visited a couple of months ago. They’re known for their “slow pour” lagers (which are WORLD CLASS, IMHO), but they know their way around farmhouse ales, too, because this is outstanding, again IMHO.

Weihenstephaner Korbinian Dunkles Starkbier Doppelbock. Now that’s a mouthful!

Speaking of mouthfuls, what a terrific dark “strong beer!” Load up the mash tun with a bunch of Munich, Pilsner, maybe some Vienna and Carafa 2, hit it with some Hallertau Mittlefruh and you’re gonna get close! Korbinian is a great big dark Lager. It has all the predictable notes - dates, raisins, stone fruits, but unlike some of the heavier competitors, at 7.4% ABV it’s drinkable - “absolut trinkbar!!!!”

Weihenstephaner means quality however you say it. As the World’s Oldest Brewery, since 1040, they’ve been cranking out great brews like this since before the Norman Invasion - and if I had a guess, William the Conqueror probably had a few cases in his personal stash crossing the Channel! Talk about building up a thirst! Prost!

 

Excellent Amber ale from Valdosta, GA, of all places. IMO second only to Full Sail in the Amber category.

Got some take out for dinner. Across the parking lot is a service station. Thought while there I would get gas and some Veil beers (they actually carry 3 or 4 of them). Cancelled that plan. A car had caught fire near the gas pumps. An inferno. A large plume of flames and black smoke. Thought it would be wise to get the hell away from it.

Had a great productive day, for me (imagine a high golf handicap in life)
*did all my chores I put off for two weeks
*took my dog on a walk and inboxed @champ103 about beer and stuff
*I could cry, my lawn service vacuumed up my lawn of all my leaves, which will be $$ but, I’d rather work a few Rx OT hours than rake. Win!, for real I banked on them for Thanksgiving week!

#2, also from Seedz, this quad is a sort of spicy candy apple with a nice little boozy finish. Delicious stuff, IMHO - and check out the glass I found tucked away in my glassware cabinet!!!

I agree with you about the whole raking leaves thing. I hate it and refuse to do it. I bought a mulching blade for the lawnmower and just mow over the leaves. You have to do it before there are too many leaves. The mulched leaves breakdown fast and are good for the soil.
