Now this is an American brewery that does the Helles style justice. I can't pass on it when I see it at the store. Bierstadt, well done!

Me too. When I really want a fresh, well crafted German style beer I lean into Good Word and Round Trip locally. I may have asked you before but how is Dovetail?

Whenever I see Dovetail on draft, I jump for it. However, their beer doesn't seem to hold up well in cans so I lean toward a few others that have been historically good.

We get drops from time to time from breweries around the country. Kinda hoping to see some of theirs.

FWIW I had a long conversation with Hagan Dost of Dovetail at last summers Logjammin’ Lager Beer Festival in Philadelphia. One of the questions I asked was about decoction brewing and beer stability. It seemed to me that this was a topic that Hagan did not know much about. I asked him if all of his beer were distributed locally and consequently consumed quickly. Again, he seemed to be uncertain about this topic.

Pure speculation on my part but perhaps there is a relationship here as regards their canned products being ‘suspect’? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I can report that the draft beers they served at Logjammin’ were very tasty.

    Cheers!

A shameless cross-post here. Cause I’m still laughing at my own joke. Need more beer.

I’m bock! With an old friend who knows what it means to be a Bock. And with no further ado: Let the celebration commence with a due with JS Bach.

and with that I bid the adieu… for now.

    but seriously, THIS beer!

That's a fantastic doppelbock. Word class and worthy of enjoying every sip! Prost!

Georg Rittmayer Bock Beer til I find some of the Christmas Bock.

Inviting aroma of cereal and pears. Substantial body with plenty of spritz on the tongue. Quite rich and malty with a distinct sweetness. Flavors are fruity and mellow. This is a good example of the Bock style and highly drinkable. Finish is dry cider and quite delicious in the aftertaste as the tangy notes rise and the sweetness fades.

Starting off with the Schönramer Pils. You could reasonably argue that judging a Bavarian brewery by its Pils instead of its Helles is unfair, but that’s how we roll in the Pils and Love crew.

Not to be a contrarian, but I’m no longer much of a fan of German beer.
I used to manage a team in Dresden and had to regularly visit - and spent many an evening drinking German beer.

What was your most frequent libation in Dresden? Radeberger?

Rauchbier from Barrique Brewing & Blending out of Nashville. This is a Bamberg-style smoked märzen. Brewed with Weyermann Beechwood smoked and Munich malts. Double decocted and hopped with German tradition. 5.5% ABV.

The taste is great. Smoked ham flavors are balanced by the malty flavors. Notes of Semi-sweet fruit come through. Apricots, mild dates, raisin. Nutty notes and a dry woody taste are there. The smoke is lovely on this. Hickory sticks come through. Super smooth overall. Love it. Very balanced.

Brewed a true to form hefe, and for the record, it hits all the flavor points. Now just waiting for it to fizz up.

I used to live in a place called Bierstadt. It was a neighborhood of Wiesbaden. It was named for St. Birgrid who traveled through there.

I don't know for certain but I imagine that may have inspired the name for the U.S. brewery.

Anybody know anything about these Eibauer brewers? I found a nice artwork of their old brewery.

Their excellent Pilsner has an inviting aroma of straw and alfalfa. Modest malty sweetness to start but then more dry with clean flavors of grain. Some hints of rye and apples. This is a highly quaffable and pleasing hoppy Lager. It starts with some cereal-tasting malt and finishes with the kiss of hops.

Andechs Doppelbock on draft at my local German food restaurant. One of the few places I can get and Weihenstephaner Pilsner on draft.

That's a great question. I'm trying to figure out of they make the Bismarkbrau beers. Seems to be a link. @Bavarican?
