Kross Strain Brewing Fairy Nectar DDH Hazy IPA w/Citra & Mosaic Hops, 6.2% ABV; 4.29 overall

Pours a hazy gold with one finger of eggshell colored head. Average head retention & better lacing

S: Tropical fruit & citrus in good amounts, some pineapple & mango. Great nose

T: Passion fruit, guava, tangerine, a little dryness & green melon up front. A little peach & white grape sneaks in as this beer warms up, some mango & green melon as well, some powdery dryness. Finishes with powdery dryness, green melon, mango & orange

MF: Medium body, creamy carbonation, good balance

Fairly juicy, easy to drink, nice tropical fruitiness as well. If everything matched the nose, this would be an A+ beer

    Troegs - Sunshine Pilsner

12oz bottle served in a stemless rastal. Freshest by 111425. @jonphisher sent it to me.

Pours clear light gold, smallish head. Lots of carbonation. Smell is lager yeast and moderate earthy bitterness, some bready / grainy stuff going on.

Taste is surprisingly bitter, grassy and earthy with a little lemon zest to brighten things up. Something slightly woody, not lacking in the grainy sweetness but it's not the dominant flavor.

Mouthfeel is light, smooth, crisp. Nice beer, would be easy to drink a few of these.

    look: 4.5 | smell: 4.25 | taste: 3.75 | feel: 4 | overall: 4

Poured from a 19.2 ounce can dated 9-30-25 into a snifter at 52 degrees F.

Appearance- Medium gold, moderately hazy, white frothy head, slightly above average head retention, above average lacing.

Aroma- Orange, pith, dank, pine resin, mango, pineapple, between medium and high strength of scent.

Flavor- Highly pithy, orange, pine resin, pineapple, high strength of flavor.

Mouthfeel- Full body, average carbonation, mildly mouth warming, highly creamy, moderately astringent, mildly mouth coating, highly dry finish.

Overall- Medium gold and moderately hazy with above average lacing. The bouquet was a pleasant mix of citrus, pine resin and tropical notes. The flavor was heavy on the pithy orange peel character and to light on pine for good balance. The feel had full body and high creaminess, but the highly dry finish and moderate astringency were detractors. Overall this beer was an average WCIPA.

When I first joined up here I remember walking by Firestone Walker beers on the shelves all the time. I don't know if they stopped distributing here or what, but they are rarer than hen's teeth now. I remember being jn a store not too long ago and asking if they had FW beers - the beer person said they had never heard of the brewery. Time for a new store!

Okay last new beer of the weekend Little House Brewing Co. Double Gingerbread Cookies ( the label is supposed to look that wy )Imperial Scotch Ale w/Gingerbread cookies, Ginger, Vanilla & Cinnamon, 10.0% ABV; 3.56 overall

Pours an effervescent chestnut/auburn with a thumb of tan head. Some head retention & lacing, viscous

S: Standard gingerbread fare here, figs

T: Follows the nose, there's malt & booze lurking along dark cherry. plus some peat notes up front. Vanilla, cinnamon & ginger to the fore as this beer warms up, some cakey & toffee notes too. Finishes a with some booze, jammyness & plenty of gingerbread

MF: Some booze burn on the lips, medium body, subdued carbonation, some warming. Body thinned out a little too much for my liking

Decent as a gingerbread beer, doesn't really scream wee heavy, ABV is fairly well hidden. Glad I got to try this; really glad it was just a single

Crooked Stave - Gift of Time: Infinite Horizons

375ml bottle served in a stemless rastal. Don't see a date on it. @beergoot sent it to me, if I remember correctly.

Pours black, thick, syrupy, black. Love it when you pour a huge stout and the head comes up after the pour. Dark brown head fades quickly, leaving a thin, fine ring around the rim. Tiny carbonation bubbles slowly creeping up from the depths. Smell is big boozy butterscotch, vanilla and simple syrup, wood and molasses. Maybe some chocolate and coffee, let's mention vanilla a second time.

Taste is rich milk chocolate, molasses and caramelized brown sugar, horehound. dark roast coffee.

Mouthfeel is silky, soft, fluffy, quite cozy. This is a really nice beer.

Second and last beer of the tonight, enjoyed while watching Mahomes flounder, which helped one of my fantasy teams flourish as I was against him in a league with #1 seed on the line. LETS GO!! plus I dont really like Mahomes so 3 INT makes me smile!

this is Fox Farm Brewing in Salem , CT and their Witch Meadow Black IMperial Stout, 2020 vintage. 13.6% beer aged in rum barrels and added smoked coconut.

    onto my review:
Im sampling a 500 ml bottle at cellar temp and poured into my snifter. Purchased years ago at the brewery, and been in my cellar since then. The beer pours a pitch black oil color with no light passing through. I get minimal tan head of <0.5cm and this fades to a pencil thin edging soon after the pour. Zero lattice on swirls or sips.
Aroma is dark chocolate and roasted malts mixing with some fusol booze and wooden barrel notes. I also get a little charred note, form barrel or smoked coconut, I dont know. No hop character on the nose.
First sip reveals a medium body with slightly sticky texture that coats my palate, lips and teeth on each sip. Carbonation is very fine and gentle and I find this to be a sipping beer due to the stickyness and the boozy warmth Im getting on the finish each swallow.
Flavor is malt forward with some dark fudge brownie notes a bit of rum and some charred wood and smokiness. Not a lot of sweetness on the flavor profile, much more char and dark chocolate. A bit of warming booze on the finish. Never any hop character on this big stout. Dont know if the smoke is charred barrel or the smoked coconut, but it works here and Im enjoying it. glad I held onto this bottle!

pFriem - Rye Whiskey Barrel Aged Imperial Brown Ale

    375ml bottle served in a stemless rastal. Bottled on 09 02 23.

Pours dark brown with a big light tan head that settles slowly into a thick, clotty layer, and further settles into a lumpy skin with fairly long legs. Smell is mild compared to BBA stouts, lots of raisin or dates, smells kind of like a mild barleywine. Something strangely fruity.

Taste is sweet, nutty, toffee. Rye spice, burnt nuts. Hint of molasses, dark sweet bread (not sweetbread). Hint of cola.

Mouthfeel is surprisingly light and smooth, little bit of a prickle. Interesting and good.

Birkebeinerpils Nordic Pilsner from Victor-23 Craft Brewing in Vancouver, Wash.

Clean and tangy flavors with a touch of malty sweetness. Lovely flowery aroma with herbs and fresh hay. The magic hop they use here gives it a delicious spicy note along with some citrus flavor. There is some bitterness in the aftertaste but the elegant flavors shine clearly. Overall this is my vote for best Pilsner of the year.
