By the time I split the bottle with my son-in-law and took the pic, it had warmed considerably. I typically like any dark beer to be close to room temp for max flavor.

There wasn't much there. I kind of drizzle-poured trying to get a bit of a head but only got a short-lived ring. Never had this beer before so I don't know what it normally might produce.

Only ever get a good cap from a straight pour. *****-footing it always results in nada.

I never get tired of Aventinus. Merry Christmas!

You know, I've never given this any particular thought, but damned if you don't have a point. I'm a huge fan of celebrator dopplebock (and German bocks in general), and invariably these beers are served too cold (especially as most of the beers I drink are on draft). In the past I've just shrugged it off, but perhaps in the future I'll take some steps to change that. The bocks I have had that were served a bit warmer were generally more flavorful and enjoyable. Red wine temperature might be too much of a good thing for me, but a warmer temperature definitely seems like a good idea.

I haven't had this in a very, very long time (at least 8+ years ago).

This was a pretty fresh drop--packaged September 9th.

This is a good doppelbock: deeply toasted bready malt with some caramel/brown sugar along with a hit of alcohol.

Wish I could still find Weltenburger beers around here, they were always spot on to style.

Wadda ya know? I just checked my favorite local's website and it says they carry some Weltenburger labels.

Either I've been blinded by too many labels on the shelves or the website hasn't been updated. Again.

I do too. Their Dunkel is the only thing I've tried and it was very good. But it was gone as quick as it came.

We're you there on a day that tours were offered? It was a good one.

I posted the below in the Lager thread:

The above recent interaction with @Reef ‘reminded’ me that I have not had a Jever in quite some time. I was at my local Retail Beer Distributor looking to buy a beer from Tonewood. There were eight different brands from Tonewood but not the brand I was hoping to buy (Wading Out). As good fortune would have it, they did have some ‘fresh’ Jever on the shelf. This beer was packaged on 9/30/25 so about 3 months old at this point. This is about as fresh as you can obtain a German import beer.

Beyond the fact this is a tasty beer there are two attributes of this beer that I really enjoy: on the initial pour there is a pleasant whiff of SO2 (match struck) and it is bone dry which invites you to want another sip (and another and another).

Prost to finding some fresh Jever!

Dang! No Wading Out yet, keep an eye I’m sure it’ll show and it’s as perfect as ever.

On Jever note sadly, but also not sadly, it has disappeared from where I frequent. Not sadly because Sunshine Pils scratches that same itch, bone dry with lingering wonderful grassy bitterness :beers:

Not too big a deal if it doesn't make it across the Delaware River. My ingredients for my annual batch of CAP will be arriving in a couple/few days.

The beauty of homebrewing is I am not at the mercy of decisions on distribution. I just make my own. Happy New Year to me!! :beers:

    Cheers!
