Did you know porters (the beer obviously) are an older style than the IPA? And the Stout? There’s a few styles that exist today, such as the Baltic, Robust, and the “regular”. I’m sure there are others, but those are the ones I have tried. Today I had a Baltic Porter, one from Goldfinger and it was lighter than the robust and thinner than the regular and had more dark fruit flavors than either. It’s delicious! Cheers all!
Founders Porter I decided to pick up a six pack after seeing the Founders Porter recipe change thread. Such a great example of the style!
Haven't tried the "New Recipe" Founders yet--My go-to is Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald or Bell's Porter
My favorite style of Porter( cuz its pretty much a stout ) 8ONE8 Brewing - Chatsworth Park After Dark Baltic Porter at the brewery Nails everything. Caramel, Canilla, robust coffee, some light chocolate covered cherry notes , cafe con leche...glorious Wish they had packs to go 100/100
There has been some interesting discussion in the ongoing thread about Founders Porter which got me thinking about the general topic of Porters. Yesterday I was at my local Retail Beer Distributor intending to buy another style of beer but when I was in the store doing some ‘window shopping’ a lightbulb went off with the thought: why not buy a Porter. I still have a couple of sixpacks of my homebrewed version of Hill Farmstead Porter in my cellar but I couldn’t fight the impulse to buy a commercially brewed Porter. It has been a number of years since I had a Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald Porter so that is the beer I decided to purchase. It tastes as exquisite as ever. Cheers!
And that’s the other of my two favorite Robust Porters — was one of the early (for me) beers that moved me from AAL’s to well-crafted beer.
Give me a Sammy Smiths' Taddy porter every time. Or one of the old Guinness Dublin porters that Arthur doesn't seem to distribute to the US anymore. Or at least, an Alaskan Smoked Porter.
