OK, OK, I'll start adding all the BKS, Alma Mader & other area breweries beers I've had down through the last few years. It's just gonna take me a loooong time.
Agreed. I often add beers I haven’t had. Therés a limit the number I can drink per day, so while I’m sitting at the brewery , I’ll add them from the board. I’ve added over 1000 so far, so I’m doing my part.
I’m in the “only adding a beer if I review it” camp, for the most part. And if I don’t it’s usually because I didn’t get around to doing so. But all that changes today!
I've added beers from both new and well-established breweries. I've slowed down a little of late, though. I've got a couple of thoughts. Beers are introduced faster than we can find them - both by hyperlocal and bigger breweries. Lots of beers are "one and done" or reflect the flavor of the week. Basically they are essentially ephemeral and may never get reviewed. I don't think that means they shouldn't be added, but the turnover rate seems high and the probability of a good number of reviews accumulating seems low. The other thing is the somewhat unsteady state of the industry as a whole. Widespread distribution isn't what it used to be. That would make each of us adding our local to us beers more important - most of us might never see or hear of many of them (or even the breweries) if we don't record them here. Places like WBAYDN and NBS/W are great places to post beers people may never see. So visit the websites and check the tap list or sale menus - find 'em and add 'em!
There's another online community that has a similar thing annually where they challenge members to submit as many high quality reviews as they can on a specific week (specifically the idea is to submit reviews for entries that currently do not have any, but the general sentiment is the same). I could see something similar being effective here.
My post that you quoted seems to have some support to set up something to try this. I'll create a thread tomorrow to have more discussion on creating a challenge to get a ton of beers added to the database.
One thing we could do. In the what beer are you drinking thread, mention if the beer you're drinking was added to the database by...umm...you.
I was in the same "Camp" as yourself until recently, I stated in a previous thread that I do not see the value in adding beers without trying them first. It became clear that participation and building the database is what matters. I added "Love The Drake" by Stellwagon Beer Co. today without trying it first. This is a tribute to Drake Maye. I'm a diehard and hopeful Patriots fan and if Stelleagon brews another batch I will take a hour+ drive to get some. Cheers.
A fun little side effect of adding beers since this thread started is finding little breweries in my region that have been around for years, that I hadn't heard of. Three Bull Brewing has been on the site since 2018, and until I was looking at Snohomish WA breweries, I'd never even heard of them. Added about a dozen beers from them.
Adding a quarter-million beers is a marathon, not a sprint. I suspect many will just shoot their wad and lose interest on the big weekend. Meanwhile, us energizer bunnies will be over here keepin' on keepin' on.
I'd also be curious to know, outside of @Todd , what members have the highest total beers added with their respective total.
Who cares about who adds the most brews to the database, who adds the most in a weekend, etc. BA IS NOT 'Dumcrapped' where the most/etc. ree-dick-you-lush badges, etc., etc., counts for anything! I'll add a new beer when I can, every day if'n possible, regardless of weekend or not & that's that! End of rant.
