Having a barrel aged cinnamon roll barleywine from Kuhnhenn. Cross post from pastry-wine thread. This isn't my favorite but it works pretty well. The cinnamon addition and the barrels blend well together but I don't think the base beer is quite right for this one. The earthy, bitter tang peeking through seems incongruous. Fun to try though.
Komes - Barleywine Ale First time trying this one, and I rather enjoyed it, but it just seemed like the flavor profile was a little muted
Interesting beer for sure. Not quite barleywine. Not hoppy enough to be a double (or triple) IPA. Pretty solid though. Cheers!!
Thomas Hardy's Ale Golden Edition 50th Anniversary from 2018. 13% ABV. Caramel candy is dominant. Ever so slight hoppy note, plums, raisins, slight mint, and some oak. Very nice. I'm loving this right now. Should continue to age nicely. I have a couple of additional bottles that I'll open in the coming years.
My first contribution to this thread, Jackie O's BA Brick Kiln, a sessionable 14.7% Barleywine style ale. I'd have another.
Aged in bourbon barrels 33 months with figs, vanilla, cinnamon, and pecans. Holidaze from Humble Forager. Another flavored barleywine. This is quite good, but I'd probably like it better without all the extras. The sticky sweet base seems like it'd be right in my wheelhouse. Full bodied with lots of boozy caramel. The vanilla and cinnamon certainly shine through and integrate pretty well. I can't find the pecans and the fig/dark fruit note might just be the power of suggestion. Glad to have tried this.
Does that have the year on the label? I love og Big Berhta's, but I haven't seen it in a year or so. I was surprised I didn't hate the (non BA) cinnamon version, but wouldn't buy it again. It only made me crave the base.
