Not even close. More like 3,5k+ so far this year vs. around 45k+ added in 2025. Remember: the most recently generated beerId isn't the exact number as it doesn't reflect the number of deleted/merged beers + duplicate beers that have yet to be deleted/merged.
I've got a pet peeve about this little quest: Yesterday, I was looking up breweries so I could add their beers. I'm on Fortside Brewing's website, and click on the "Our Beers" link, and it takes me here: https://untappd.com/FortsideBrewing/beer . If I brewery can't be bothered to have their own taplist, I can't be bothered to add their beers. I can be lazy too. So, if someone else wants to tackle that one, go right ahead.
Is that the first time that you've been redirected to Untappd? I see it maybe 15-20% of the time, especially with the small breweries that probably don't want to keep paying a webmaster for all the changes. And I think it is a list of current beers and not a historical list of all their beers on UT, so it must be a service that UT offers.
Yup, first time. And then, I hit on two breweries in Vancouver WA that did it. That's just straight laziness on a breweries part.
A LOT of breweries can't manage to maintain a taplist and/or a website. They have a beertender that set's it up, maintains it for a few months, then leaves. Going with Untappd or similar services makes sense compared to not having a current taplist.
Doesn't make it not lazy. Since we've started this quest, I've looked at a lot of brewery sites, and even some of the most Mom n Pop, part-time, as a hobby breweries have a decent website and taplist. There's no excuse for a brewery that has social media/marketing folks on staff to rely on unreliable UT except laziness.
I happen to be pretty familiar with Fortside (they’ve been a consolidation point for the competition for years) and not to rush to their defense but they are a pretty small operation and I’d be surprised if their SM “staff” isn’t the owner. Not saying they couldn’t maintain a list outside of UT, but I can see how it would be towards the bottom of a long list of things to be done.
Well, it's his choice to leave the distribution of a chunk of his public info to whims and vagaries of the intranet, well, that's a choice.
I believe untappd provides a service, and the brewery controls what's in their taplist, just as they would if it were on a brewery website, except they don't need a web developer/content editor.
I love it when I discover that a place I'm planning to visit is a Verified Venue on Untappd. Even if their beer menu isn't 100% up to date, it's usually pretty close. Plus I like seeing my name in lights on the menu board. Regardless, someone has to keep the list up to date no matter where it's stored, and I don't do social media. If you're posting your menu updates to FB and not updating your web site (if you even have one), you can go piss up a rope.
So, a side benefit of this quest is finding brewery and beer names one did not see coming. In that vein, I present, Santa's Tea Bag: https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/30660/779044/
Lately I am seeing 60 to 100 beers up for merging every day. So it's like watching the stock market averages bouncing up and down.
Yep. A lot of them seem like they're older entries. Seeing some dupes with 0 ratings, but a beer pic, which is kind of silly. I mean, you took the time to take, format, and upload a beer pic, but...
There should be plenty of data to construct a trend line and forecast the approximate date. It would be interesting to see some site data with respect to views, hits, duration of visit etc etc and plotting this versus year. With respect to those that frequently post, a bar chart covering posts per year would be invaluable to determine if only a small number account for the majority of posts.
