First quote: YES! Let's make February the "dry" month instead of January (because it has the least number of days, natch!). Who's with me?

Second quote: Double YES! Go with others & get a side of meat (whether it's a half/third/quarter/whatever) butchered FRESH from the farm instead of buying from the grocery stores!

& now, I must go grill some bison burgers, damn the single digits here in NE Sasnak LFK!!

Unfortunately I've let myself go a little bit, but one of the other fighters at my gym has offered to take me while I don't have a car, on the condition that I spar with him every night he drives until we fight in February. With both my cans and cellar running short and no way to get 40 miles to Nashville, I think I'm going to be losing a lot of weight and cutting back in February.

I just broke my dry January with a shot of Bulleit and a Brown Ale from Arbor Brewing with a good friend in his welding shop. If we both are good and lose a pound we will meet again next Sunday for the same thing. Great incentive for diet and exercise.

The incentive thing is a GREAT psychological tool. I use re-feeds (cheat days) when I'm on pre-contest diets just to keep my sanity. Helps that they provide a metabolic kick start, as well, so your body doesn't down regulate your metabolism too much while you're in a long term calorie deficit.

Well let's see, today is the 26th. I'll probably start my dry January in a few days or so if I can tough it out.

Drier January is almost over. I cut out drinking Monday through Thursday. I'm down 5+ pounds and am feeling better, so I'll probably stick with that.

Devils advocate- if 4 days a week gets you feeling better, what would 7 do?

I would be very sad every time I went to the basement, seeing my cellared collection. I'd also have no reason to hang out with you folks on BA. I'm sure I'd lose more weight, and would see further improvements to my arthritis and reflux. I'll never switch to LA/NA.

FWIW, when I'm done with these 6 weeks, I'm going to go 4 on, 3 off, so I don't completely go off the rails. Gives me something to look forward to just about every other day without getting stupid and eating and drinking whatever I want all the time.

Getting close to the end of the month. No idea if I lost weight or not. My work pants I use the second hole in my belt, this has been loose of late. Guess that’s a good sign. I honestly have no desire for a beer. I have a few cases in the basement to drink down in February cellar clearing. Will still have a few beers a week but I see myself more with Tequila and Bourbon due to the less carbs.

Who knows, will see how it actually plays out. I do have a bunch of things on my list to buy in February.

    Enjoy

Not this guy. I don't see the point. One month off won't make a difference. Unless RFK Jr comes out and says that it does. Then make sure that I'll be the first one to stock up on hop water and (gasp) regular water.

Joking aside, I don't think I am disciplined enough to pull off a whole month. I need a drink when I get pissed off, which is every 30mins these days.

I'll freely admit that all the wankers out there do make it harder to do this.

No doubt. January is arbitrary but it tends to work for me as half the month is the post-holiday malaise at work, less travel and less general drama. Getting pissed and/or stressed tends to make me want to eat junk food and drink beer (an urge I try not to always indulge for obvious reasons), so this month is easily the most conducive to taking a break and dropping a few pounds.

End of the 4th week. 14 lbs down. 2 weeks and 5 lbs to go.

This week was a big week. Lost almost 6 lbs. and, consequently, am right where I wanted to be when I was initially planning this thing. Increasing cardio, dropping calories, and shortening my eating window were all very helpful. Postulating that probably half of the weight loss is from water/inflammation, because I'm feeling WAY less bloated and the mirror tells me that my midsection is where much of the weight has disappeared from.

Now I have a little wiggle room with only 2.5 lbs to lose per week, so I might do a proper refeed tomorrow like we talked about earlier in this thread. Might even be able to join you all for the Cave Dave Memorial festivities this weekend. Maybe. We'll have to see. I really would like a beer and I can't think of a better reason to have one than to honor a fallen comrade.

This morning I weighed in -17 from my starting morning weight on new years day. Accounting for 3-6lbs water weight from glycogen I know I normally carry and that my lifts have not meaningfully lost (a few have gained actually) I'll take that as a solid 10+ in fat loss.

I'll be weighing one last time tomorrow and then celebrating 30/31 days dry January at Pure Project's 10th anniversary. I'm planning on having a week of maintenance calories (maybe one or two of those days a bit in excess) then move back to a deficit, though a significantly smaller one as I've been running a 800-1000 under idle maintenance while working out six days a week, sometimes with two a days.

Hope everyone had fun and met their goals!

I've only been damp (2 beers and a gin & tonic all month plus a NA beer the rest of the days) but I'm giving up dry January early today to have a stout or two in honor of CaveDave.

    Better luck next year.

I took a belt to my local belt purveyor, very pleased that I needed a new hole put in. They took some measurements then pointed out that I had stretched the leather, not lost weight.:sunglasses:
