1) Little Thistle Mist & Shadow (4.5%): A Czech Dark Lager from Minnesota with flavors of dark graine, earthy, and roast. Clean and dry.
versus
2) Little Thistle Cloak Of Feathers (5.0%): A Cascadian Dark Lager with Columbus Cryo, Simcoe, and Amarillo for flavors of orange, dark fruit, sweet chocolate and roast. (Correctly matched the two blind)

Little Thistle Dark Lager Battle. Small brewery in Rochester, MN makes some great lagers. First is Mist & Shadow. A Czech Dark. Dark, Roasty, Clean. Excellent for the style.
Next is Cloak Of Feathers, a Cascadian dark lager. My first try at this. Google Gemini tells me this style is a beer style mix between a Schwarzbier and an IPA. Tons of dark fruit and tropical notes upfront. Mixes with sweet cocoa. A mild bitterness, but rather a sour fruitiness linger off the end. Interesting style. This is like Dark lager meets India Pale Lager. Not had anything quite like this. I may really enjoy this. For what it is, it's done very nicely. I think adding some west-coast hops here to add some piney bitterness rather than the sour juicy notes would make this even better. Great couple of beers from Little Thistle.

Love it, if I have heard of her before its cause you brought her up...reminds me, actually a fair bit of Charlie Haden and Carla Bley's Liberation Music Orchestra. Their album The Ballad of the Fallen is excellent.

January 21st was the 10 year anniversary of my father's passing. Does it ever get "easier" or with time, do the beers just get more luxorious and sentimental? Asking as a broke 29 year old computer science major with Major Depressive Disorder.

 

Dang, that was far too young. My dad is 85 and still in pretty good health. When I hear something like this, makes me so thankful to still have him around. To your dad!
