I've been continuing my journey into the IPA world, and I've discovered a few things. I've had beers like Other Half's All Citra Everything, Grimm's Lambo Door, Mortalis' Lightning, and a bunch of local breweries' IPAs (West Kill Brewing, Union St Brewing, Hudson Brewing Co. etc). The only one I've had an adverse reaction to so far has been the Mortalis one, which had a 'dankness' to it that was very off-putting. Other Half's and Grimm's were amazing, but the kinda boozy aftertaste got in the way maybe a little bit. Grimm's especially was one of the smoothest, most pleasant to drink beers I've had in forever. I'm hoping to get my hands on some more classics of the style in the near future, and also to try more newer iterations.
Here's a new Vortex IPA collab from Fort George: This is Vor Tai P.A., which interpolates the flagship IPAs from Fort George (Vortex IPA) and Alvarado Street (Mai Tai Tropical IPA). It's not one of my favorites in this series, I gotta say. Starts off too subdued and ends a little too sharp with significant hop burn. Still, it was just canned last Monday, so I'll open a can later in the week to see how it's settling in.
I don't think I've ever seen that Doesn't look very hazy to me. Maximus, in the appropriate glassware!
It's a good thing I bought a single of this. I know TG beers get high numbers, but I'm one of those "I hate NE/Hazy IPA's" guys. It's labeled as a 3XIPA, I thought those started at a sessionable 10%¿
Just did a swap with a coworker because I got a bunch of great beers in at work: 2 cans of Upper Pass Cloud Drop for 2 cans of Grimm's Lumen. I can't tell you how jazzed I'm feeling right now to go home and try these. I've caught a craving for IPAs; it's a wild experience after a lifetime of drinking (mostly) lagers.
I picked up a nice fresh stovepipe of Fort George Vortex IPA at the Portland airport a couple days ago on my way to Albuquerque. Tonight, after an absurdly busy couple of days, it hit the spot. It hit all the spots that needed hitting.
A double red IPA is still an IPA, right? Of course it is. This is the Red Iron Double Red IPA I had about 24 hours ago at the new Steel Bender Brewing taproom in the Albuquerque airport. Tasty!
Matching pints of FU-turism IPA, a collab between Breakside Brewing (Portland, OR) and North Park (San Diego, CA). This is very good stuff.
