Have a good Thursday. Pretty normal waking hours day. I got to 60% through The Path Between The Seas by David McCullough and it is 4.5/5 now. Another instance of financial corruption and random anti-Semitic connections while doing the bids for the engineering work. Also a massive failure by the French with the guy who built the Suez Canal, between money and tons of workers dying of malaria/Yellow Fever. History just keeps repeating itself in similar ways. Hoping to finish that tonight, I have a handful of shorter books with only a few days left on library hold. Also learned about Alexander von Humboldt, so I will definitely get some geography books about him soon as well. Julia is making Aldi Hamburger Helper for dinner in the instantpot.

Wicked weed Perni haze. Amazing citra and simcoe hop profile. Dank yet soft hops.

#2, also from Chicago, as world class as Dovetail’s lager game is, so is Rev’s barrel program. This cuvée is magnificent, IMHO - and look at this lineup of beers represented in my glass:

Revolution Dethurana BBA Imperial Stout, 14.1% ABV. Pours black with a four-finger light-brown head that left great lacing. Aroma is amburana/cinnamon, other spices, and bourbon. Taste is amburana/cinnamon and other spices, and bourbon, moderately sweet, slightly bitter. There are some nice spice flavors here that I can't describe, but really enjoy. Decent mouthfeel, overall outstanding. A side-by-side with Bamburana would have been interesting.

It’s been raining here in Southern California all day. That’s a perfect mood setter for rainy British Pub Ales for me! Time to open another great tasting Ale out of the Samuel Smith gift box!

Samuel Smith even goes so far to give you the glass to drink it from. This is no ordinary glass and it’s no ordinary pint glass either. Nope, not a 500 ml liter glass either. This bad boy is sized up to take a 550 yes, “550” ml, 18.7 ounces right up to the brim! No short pours here!

At Samuel Smith’s, they are rightly proud of their “Yorkshire Squares,” an open fermentation method that drives ester production in the yeast. This provides a lot of the “fruity” characteristics you find on many of the Samuel Smith Ales. So much so, that they put it right there on the bottle!

I’m still trying to sort out what constitutes “Organic” brews at Samuel Smith such as their 5% ABV Organic Pale Ale, but hey, if it sells beers, more power to ya! Cheers!
