Sorry that happened. Pretty unusual for BT. I find their non-adjunct beers pretty safe for long aging. Better than other breweries. I have become skeptical of the ones with adjuncts... Especially fresh things like fruit or coconut (which I know is also a fruit, but you know what I mean). I'm skeptical of nuts too. I've generally stopped getting ones like that if I don't think I'll drink within a year. Cofermentation seems to be safer. Like the apple and pear beers. Those area few years old and still great.
I pretty much agree. I went through a phase where I aged beer on purpose for various reasons. Did a few verticals with friends and so forth. I will say Bruery, Firestone, Bourbon County and Fremont have performed the best with age. But overall the general consensus amongst all of my beer friends was that fresh is best with very few exceptions. Coffee is one of the worst adjuncts to age based on my experience. No adjuncts is best but again, I think I have an sensitivity to what I believe is oxidation. I've poured way too much aged beer down the drain and it's just not worth the risk at this point.
I'm seeing unavailability - assuming bottling delays - on All the Creamy Cows and Fat Twosday from this month. What are the odds those clear up before the cellar fulfillment deadline so I can get them in the same shipment? It's rough not living anywhere near either location and paying moderately high prices for the beer and then needing to batch together shipping so shipping prices aren't ridiculous. Including cellar shipping on $200+ orders is a nod in the right direction, but if there's only one or two things in a month that are interesting, I'm probably not dropping $200 at any one time anyway.
I take the approach that I don't cellar things expecting them to improve (though sometimes they do). It's more that I want to enjoy the same beer again in the future when it's no longer available for sale.
They said it wasn't bottle issues this time; other production/packaging delays. They said their tentative ready by date was the 16th.
You'd have to email them...a couple new archive things went up this week, but feels light relative to usual archive offering.
shipping should be free for orders over $200 even if you include cellar items, right? my free shipping option is disappearing if I add one cellar item from 2025 or even 2026...
Answered my own question with the FAQ in case anyone else was confused! I have over $200 worth of items in my cart and then added my 2025 cellar items. Why does my order not qualify for free shipping? 2025 cellar items are not eligible for our free shipping promotion or the new member benefit in which 2026 cellar items can be added to a free shipping order. This benefit will begin after the cellar deadline to ensure it's used as intended.
FYI - Fat Twosday and everything else is now fillable (the other ones had been good since last week).
I am curious if the free shipping (with a $200 purchase) will include any cellar bottles or only those included with the membership.
Yeah the fact that they just refer to them as 'cellar items' makes me think it should be anything in the cellar.
Does anyone know what the base stout is for some of the ~13.5% stouts like Banana Daydream, Barrel Aged Three's Company and Toasted Delight? I opened these over last few weeks and really enjoyed them. Maybe they don't share a base but they have a very similar flavor profile under the adjuncts.
If I was on a game show I would guess Bayonet base since those were a bit sweeter but not as thick as monster stout.
