Have a good NBS. Been up since 8AM. Read the last 2/3rd of Dopesick by Beth Macy 4.25/5. Great overview of the Sackler Dynasty and Oxycontin/opioid addiction, second part follows a small town and some families that are trying to stay clean of opioids. A lot of good statistics, apparently relapses are very hard to overcome, and need 5 years of treatment to succeed in 85% of cases.

Now reading The Body by Bill Bryson, which is basically Gray's Anatomy Light, a lot of fun facts about every part of the body into a well structured tome like the rest of his books. 4.25/5

Had a bit of chores for the day, Had to scoop 3 cat boxes and took out the trash which included 50 lbs of spent litter for the week. So I finally accomplished something useful for the week, and got a light workout  Finally cooling down and a bit breezy.

Roxi splayed out. She still won't use the nursing box yet, but everyone else will. :joy:

Wernesgrüner Pils Legende from Aldi. Base beer for the radlers I assume. BB 4/29/26. Amazing fluffy head retention and lacing on the glass. Aromas and flavors of big lemon, cracker, white bread dough, light toast/biscuit/nuttiness, wood, peppercorn, pine, herbal, floral, grass. Medium pine, woody, spicy, citrus peel bitterness on the finish. Medium-high carbonation, light-medium body, and crisp/clean/refreshing finish. Balanced bready/grainy malt and sticky hop mouthfeel. Light resins and lingering hop oil dryness with minimal hop astringency. Nearly bone dry finish. A slight touch of minerality after the finish. Perfectly clean lager flavors, no yeasty notes. Spot on German pils. Balanced clean pils/munich malt and noble hop flavor profile. 4.06/5

So, as the ever so observant @ChicagoJ pointed out, the NBS thread is now 21 years old.
Well, I have some old beer in my cellar but nothing 21 years old.
Hopefully 12 years old is sufficient. It’s not been in my cellar that long, I think I bought it at Bell’s last year.
The pour is a mahogany color with ruby highlights. The beige head is a centimeter tall and leaves sparse lacing.
Taste is toffee flavor from the malt and the hops bring in a bitter flavor that keeps the malt in check. The flavors blend nicely and it’s easy quaffing.
The feel is not quite viscous, a little thinner than expected. But for a 12 year old beer, not too bad at all.
OA, it’s not the best barleywine but it’s far from the worst.
I think this one will finish me off tonight though I will be in the Celluary thread for the duration.
    Cheers!

Ok gang, you got me to go look for my first NBS, it was NBS Week 489. Searching was a crapshoot, so I just went to the end of the forum after the crash in 2012 and worked back. I distinctly remember that I was a religiously posting in WBAYDN/LNBA when I reviewed things for years before @utopiajane asked me to make an appearance randomly on my 2400th review, and I pretty much have been stopping by ever since. I used to just review 4 beers and post the whole deal as one message before the limits were enacted to the site for 2 pics per post. It was not a good format anyways. https://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/new-beer-sunday-week-489.192459/page-4#post-2565885

Dock Street Rye IPA BA :beers:

    From the can:
Alc. 6.8% by Vol. 65 IBUs. The Dock Street West Philly Flagship. An aggressively hopped American India Style Pale Ale brewed with Simcoe and Amarillo hops. The use of over 20% rye gives this ale a unique dry and spicy character.

Courtesy of BA Royalty himself the @beerdedking

Pours a ruddy looking amber body, semi-clear with noticeable snow globe action from the suspended yeast and hop particulate. A tightly formed khaki cream head crowns the glass displaying some nice lasting stay power. Light cascading sheets and dots are noted left sticking to the glass.

A spiced caramel and rye cracker malt entry supports a classic hop combo of Simcoe-Amarillo. Delivers a firm citrus and pine punch with something distinctly floral, especially in the lingering finish. I get dried orange peel and lemon zest with sappy evergreens.Finishes dry and resinous beckoning one to take the next sip.

Overall this is a solid beer that delivers a very nice rustic vibe. Reminds me of the first Gen American IPA's from days of yore. I have to think one would be hard pressed to find beers like this still being brewed in today's market.

well, hunkered down for the blizzard and its already coming down pretty hard out there. This beer is Free Will Brewing out of Perkasie, PA. Scarecrow Autumn spiced wheat ale is 5% ale. Probably do at least 2 more tonight, maybe after a first pass of snow clearing.

    onto my review:
Sampling a cellar temp 12 oz can with no date stamp, but since its an "autumn beer" figure its at least 6 months old.
received as part of Christmas exchange with my brothers.
The beer pours a light , but vivid gold color with a dense, fluffy bleached white head of about 0.5 cm. this foam fades to a sturdy edging soon after the pour .
Aroma is some light biscuit malt and stronger hits of nutmeg and vanilla. No hop character and there is no boozy note anywhere either.
First sip reveals a light body with clean, smooth texture. Carbonation is fine and slightly tingly. Beer drinks very easy on the physical traits.
Flavor is sort of mild with some mild grainy malt and a bit of wheat twang followed by nutmeg and vanilla through the finish. The sweet spicy note carries long after each swallow and I never get any notes of hop character on this beer.
Its an easy drinker and features the flavors that I would expect from the can descriptor, but there isnt really anything memorable about this one either. Its simply ok.

Here's my single contribution to this week's thread. I'll be cracking several this coming weekend! I'm drinking Midnight on the Run from Wiley Roots Brewing from Colorado. Imperial chocolate stout. 10.6% ABV. A surprise gift from @muchloveforhops3 !

Poured at fridge temp. Pours pitch black with a little bit of head. The cacao nibs really come through here. Chocolate, graham cracker, slightly nutty, vanilla.

The taste is amazing. Creamy and smooth. Vanilla, light caramel, milk chocolate, walnuts, slight roasted malts, and a touch of maple. Really enjoyable.

The mouthfeel is nice and creamy, with a great aftertaste of chocolate and caramel.

Poured from a 16 ounce can marked 2719 (which I’m sure means something to someone, but nothing to me…put a born on date on your cans) into a snifter at 53.1 degrees F.

Appearance- Black, opaque, medium brown creamy head, average head retention and lacing.

Aroma- Coffee, maple syrup, vanilla, high strength of scent, high artificial character.

Taste- Coffee, maple syrup, roasted malt, vanilla, very high strength of flavor, high artificial character.

Feel- Medium body, silky, slightly below average carbonation, highly bitter, mildly sweet, mildly creamy, moderately mouth warming, mildly mouth coating.

Overall- Black and opaque with average head retention and lacing. The aromatics and flavor were both a mix of coffee, maple syrup and vanilla, but the artificial character of the scent and flavor were off putting. The only reason I rated them as highly as I did was because of the overwhelming strength, but I probably overrated those two attributes. The feel was thinner than expected with an underwhelming mouth coating property. The silkiness, bitterness and moderate mouth warming properties were nice aspects to the feel. Overall, this was a beer that packed a big punch in regard to bouquet and flavor, but most of it seemed artificial. When this is paired with the $26 per 4 can price tag it was a huge disappointment. Also, put born on dates on your cans.

Bizarre - A Light So Dim, grodziskie at 2.9% abv. Seems like the perfect beer after a four-year-old's birthday party, the day after a fifteen-year-old's birthday party...

16oz can served in a curvy Monhegan pint glass. Canned on 12/5/25. Bought it a couple days ago at Chuck's Hop Shop.

Pours clear light yellow with a big fizzy head, collapses quickly into a clotty nest. Tons of carbonation. Smell is light and smokey, almond nutty. Mild floral sweetness, maybe some wayward lemon.

Taste is a little more on the earthy woody side, still strong on the smoke, more woodsmoke now. Citrus notes turn a little bit toward lime, floral sweetness is still there, maybe a bit more noticeable than it was in the aroma.

Mouthfeel is very light and effervescent. Solid grodziskie.
