That’s Birra Morena from Basilicata in southern Italy. It is actually from my grandfather’s region. It is a straightforward pale lager and when fresh it is clean and lightly malty. The green bottle might not have done it any favors.

Addendum: Birra Morena is independent and based in Basilicata. It operates at a regional scale in Italy but is not owned by a multinational macro group.

At least you found out up front before you started a relationship.

 

It's pretty good roasted in the oven with some garlic and shallots and olive oil. That's my favorite way to have it, but is good in a stir-fry as well.

 

As much as I'm entertained by his 'reviews,' I keep thinking in the back of my mind.... is he trying to be the Rick Steeves of beers? Is it 2009? But hey... we all start somewhere.
