Maybe there's nothing that can be done about the scheduling of this event, but it just seems kind of odd to me that the cask festival is the same weekend as the Taste of Washington event (Seattle's premier food and wine event). Yes, I suppose one can go to the cask festival on Saturday and the Taste of Washington event on Sunday, but that makes for a fairly expensive, alcohol full weekend. Would really like to attend the cask festival one of these days, but if I have to choose between it and the Taste of Washington, I'm always going to go with the Taste of Washington.
Left to my own devices, I might do the same thing (on occassion). However, the GF is totally into wine and doesn't like beer. That tends to cinch the deal for me.
Ha! Similar dilemma. Wife doesn't drink beer. My solution, park downtown so she can shop, I take monorail to festival (or walk) and drink. She will be dd afterwards. On a side note, why is their website so dysfunctional? Go to their website and there is no link to the beer list. OP, wonder how the wa beer blog got the list when it's not on the festival's website.

However, the wine and food selection are flat out amazing at this event, so I try not to ever miss it (we even went with the two day, weekend VIP pass this year). Even if you don't care for wine, the food selection at the T of W is THAT good!
I'll keep that in mind for next year. I do love wine, I just love beer more. And my wife loves wine. Let's hope there's no conflict next year so it doesn't have to be a choice.
Agreed. Again, this is just my opinion, but I don't think there's any more exciting part of the world than the columbia valley, walla walla appellations when it comes to wine. If you stay away from pretentious wineries like Leonetti, Cayuse and Abeja, you can find some incredible stuff at extremely reasonable prices (at least for the quality of what you're getting. The latest "best value" section of the Wine Spectator makes that very clear - even the mot recent Kung Fu Girl reisling got a 90, and you don't see too many scores like that in the Dictator for domestic reisling). One thing I will say (though you probably already know this), the T of W event is a bit more spendy than the cask beer festival. but if you like food and wine, it's really something that's not to be missed!
That would be sad to miss out on the Taste, but as you can see from the beer list for the Cask Beerfest, I have yet to find a beer festival with a lineup that is as exciting as this one. It is my one Must-go every year.
The beer list is amazing. Hence my reason for feeling annoyed. These two outstanding events just should not be on the same weekend (IMHO).
No knock on Walla Walla, we love the Rattlesnake Ridge & Walla Walla but we have a soft spot for the great Pinot's of the Willamette Valley. Great beer, great wine. So much fun living in the Great Northwest. And no, I don't want to get in a pissing contest with anyone from the Sonoma/Napa Valleys Russian River beer and Hook & Ladder wine (to name two of hundreds) yum.
Hiya NWer - We also wish Cask Fest and Taste WA were different weekends. We're doing Cask on Saturday, Taste on Sunday. Maybe we'll see you there. We got the beer list directly from the festival organizer via e-mail. The reason their website is so sparse is that the WA Brewers Guild took over the festival management (and proceeds) from the WA Beer Commission, but that decision wasn't made until a couple months prior ago and being that the members are active brewers, they don't have a lot of time and resources. So for this event I think they are relying on resources like us (the beer blog) to get the word out for them. Last year the Cast Festival (second session at least) doubled up with Hops N Props on the same night. The past two years there have been scheduling conflicts of great events for sure...
