Here's a fun exercise for everyone. I ripped this idea off from @cwm51662 (sorry Chris, but giving you credit). How many of you have asked AI to suggest a mixed six pack of beers for you based on your tastes and profile. I used Microsoft Co-Pilot and asked it to consider imports and Georgia based breweries. Here is what it came up with for me: Ayinger Brau-Weisse German Wheat Halfway Crooks Var Czech Pilsner Creature Comforts Bibo Pilsner Good Word Analog Life English Dark Mild Pilsner Urquell Czech Lager Saison Dupont That's a pretty spot on list for me! For funsies, I asked Grok to review my ratings and profile and suggest a mixed six pack. Here is the result: Active Low (German Pilsner) - Halfway Crooks Beer (Atlanta, GA) MTRC (Helles) - Halfway Crooks Beer (Atlanta, GA A Troubadour Speaks (German Pilsner) - Good Word Brewing & Public House (Duluth, GA) Sun Giant (German Helles) - Reformation Brewing (multiple GA locations, e.g., Smyrna/Woodstock) 95 Munich Lager (Munich Dunkel) - Reformation Brewing (GA) Dunkel Platz (Munich Dunkel) - Round Trip Brewing (Atlanta, GA) That was a pretty good effort for both AI. Give one or both a try and see what they come up with.
I uploaded my list of reviews from BAdvocate, but AI could only access ~180 of them. Here’s the six pack it recommended; “Heady Topper — Double IPA (The Alchemist) • One of the most famous and highly rated DIPA’s on BA. Expect dense hop complexity and strong but balanced bitterness. Tree House King Julius — New England IPA (Tree House Brewing) • Juicy, fruity NEIPA that fans of softer, hop-aroma IPAs usually love (similar to high scores you gave Hazy Life). Trappist Westvleteren 12 — Quadrupel (Brouwerij Westvleteren) • A classic, complex Belgian strong ale with rich malt, dark fruit, and spice — great if you liked fruit-forward or fruited beers.” As if I’m ever gonna be able to try this one! “Kentucky Breakfast Stout (KBS) — Imperial Stout (Founders) • A barrel-aged stout with rich chocolate/coffee and bourbon notes — a pick for stout lovers who enjoyed Guinness variants. Pliny the Younger — Triple IPA (Russian River Brewing) • If Pliny the Elder was a favorite, the stronger, more intense Younger is a logical next hop step. Bourbon County Brand Stout (BCBS) — Imperial Stout (Goose Island) • Barrel-aged classic with vanilla, oak, and coffee notes; another stout for your palate if you liked Guinness and richer dark beers.” Great thread idea!
Don’t do it! I despise AI. As a beer drinker I’d rather have water available for brewing, not cooling down servers of multinational corporations designing algorithms that will put me and countless others out of a job.
I see this mentioned all the time and my question is always: Al who? Al Kooper? Al Green? Al Di Meola? Maybe that goofy Paul Simon song? Did some more Googling and I keep seeing the phrase "Al Slop". Oh, must referring to Big Al Downing and his classic Georgia Slop.
For you and anyone else who asks Al the question, are the 6 beers also (coincidently) 6 of your highest rated beers here on BA? I think Al's reply would be A LOT more interesting if your ratings/reviews were NOT available in the search database. @ATL6245
Maybe I'm missing your point, but how would Al (or Google) know your BA userid to use that as a search criteria to be able to read your 'preferences' and come up with a list from your own top beers? Is 'Big Brother' snooping on your computer/phone, etc?
That's a great list. You can of course ask it to pick beers more accessible. A lot of ways to approach it, depending on what you're wanting to accomplish.
I will look up a certain beer on BA. The next time I go back to BA thru a Google search I see the last few beers I've searched as alternate links to click. I also see certain beer stories suggested in my news feed. If you use Google as a search engine haven't you seen the "You Visit Often" tag on sites you search? Google = Big Brother. Be careful what you search.
No they were not. But that would depend on how you ask it to pick. I did it two ways because I was curious what it would come up with. With Co-Pilot, I asked simply suggest some import and local beers based on my tastes. It asked me some questions you would ask if you were suggesting beers for them. With grok, I told it to analyze my BA reviews. Co-pilot came up with a little more balanced 6 pack. grok was heavily German and interestingly came up with two Reformation beers, one I've had and one I've not. And I rarely buy their beers mostly because of availability.
Right. The thing about AI is, you can instruct it not to look at you reviews. As I just explaned to PapaGoose, I asked Co-Pilot to suggest based on my general tastes and it asked me some good questions about hops and bitterness. With grok, I just asked it to look at my reviews and suggest beers.
Before we get too far into this thread, I intended this to be an entertaining exercise. Keep that in mind. @JackHorzempa is right, most of your search engines now automatically go to AI mode and use your search history to try to improve results over time (your mileage may vary). You can do things like instruct it to "Suggest a balanced six pack of different beers that will fit my tastes. Consider imports and Georgia beers. Don't use my Untappd or Beer Advocate ratings. Do ask me questions to help you determine my preferences." Or you can tell it your prefences for malt, hops, bitterness, etc. First thing to decide is what your goal is. Lots of possibilities.
Yes, everything, everywhere, all the time. I was just curious what it would come up with so I asked the question differently and now the list is all IPAs. The fun factor is starting where off now that I’m doing this early in the morning and sober.
Wait, are you suggesting our goal as a species shouldn’t be to have everyone just sit around indoors all day, eating Doritos they 3D printed at home?
I'm glad you loved the idea, but I actually FIRST bought the six, then asked grok to give me the optimal order to drink it in. I wonder if I could get grok to do it your way?
The list grok gave me: Pliny The Elder (fat chance finding that here), Delerium Nocturnum (which I CAN get at Meijer) any KBS variant (which I am more than up for!), Bells Expedition Stout (another favorite!) Goose Island BCBS (can anyone loan me some $ for this one?) and Souther Tier Creme Brule (currently my #54). I can live with this!
