was it Hermit Thrush? they brewed sours on Elliot, right next to the Latchis lobby. I think they got wiped out in Irene's flooding. There was a restaurant and brewery underneath the Latchis but it was more like 30+ years ago.. It was called Windham Brewery and Restaurant. The food was good and the beer not half bad. After they closed, I'm sure another bar/restaurant opened but I never went. I spent a lot of time and money at the Sunset as well. Great place.
Headed to Burlington for the first time in a bit this weekend. Guess I’ll swing by the renamed Mothership, been meaning to check out Howl Bier for a while so definitely making it there. Any other spots I need to prioritize?
It was called Flat Street Brewpub, then Flat Street Pub, then think we just called it 'The Latchis' when heading over there.. for a long time they were the unofficial taproom of Berkshire Brewing Company (Flat Street Brewpub years) and always had 7-8 of their beers plus a cask (or was it a nitro?) Around 2006 or so they must have lost the relationship with BBC because they kept a few but started to put on a lot more guest taps. Became Flat St. Pub and dropped the Brew) Drank there a lot in 2007-8 and Stone IPA was my go-to after the BBC stuff dried up... Many great memories there and everything served in 20oz, oh the good ol days.
I agree with Mule Bar, typically a great tap list the Howl had nice atmosphere but a limited selection when I went last summer, right after they had opened
Yup, this is 100% it. And that’s absolutely the story. Thanks that was killing me. I know they definitely still had Berkshire beers around 2010/11 ish range. I remember having some.
No stranger to Foam - I went for the first time back in June 2016 a month after they opened. Like a lot of folks here, I’m kind of over them now. Quality has gone downhill over the last few years. Since 2022? I haven’t been keeping track but every time we go I’m a little more disappointed. We’ve been plenty before but tried to go tonight around 7:30 but there was a ticketed event. Was dead there, almost no one in the parking lot but couldn’t get in because it was apparently sold out. Breweries gotta pivot, so good for them if they get a big crowd tonight. Good few days here. Went to the Parlor at Farmhouse—much better than the upstairs, Juniper—busy but good taplist, La Di Da Pizzeria—great pizza but not much good beer here, Wallflower Collective—big fan of this spot, don’t want to hype it up too much but tremendous vibes here, Mule Bar—dependable, bunch of HF beer, hit or miss vibes, Howl—small taplist but good, curated stuff here, loved the higher strength bock bier, Honey Road—no draft, decent food though, and Devil Takes a Holiday—mostly just cocktails.
I just stopped by Farmhouse Tap and Grill - I assume that’s what you meant by Farmhouse, anyway I was so underwhelmed by their tap list that I actually walked out. There was a time they worked hard to have an interesting tap,it’s and I would have half pours of some of their stronger stuff, but no more - I think they have given up. I’d been to the branch in Williston when it opened and thought the tap,it’s was disappointing, but I somehow thought the original would be ok.
Where would be the best place to hang in Burlington (staying at the Hilton) that's walkable, will have the NCAA basketball tournament games on, and has a decent to great tap list? I'm equally happy with a Heady Topper or a Guinness or Miller Lite for this kind of thing, though I'd be happier to have something really VT-centric.
Wow, I can give you my recommendations on brewpubs and bars, but most don’t have sports on tv Even though I’ve somewhat soured on them, I think Switchback was showing sports on multiple tvs when I was there last. They are now next door to BBCO, so if you want more beer… The web says go to Ruben James, Abe’s Place, Church St. Tavern on Church St Mall
My first thought was Archives because of the strong tap list, but not sure that's the best viewing environment. Absent a short Uber ride to Mule Bar in Winooski (best tap list in the area with a few tvs), I'd say Church St. Tavern or Ri Ra will be decent options with lots of screens and VT taps. I also enjoyed Zero Gravity this past fall for Sunday NFL if a brewpub is of interest - it's about a 20 minute walk from your hotel.
Sorry if this has been addressed, but what are good spots in Stowe to eat / drink? We did Waterbury last night so looking for something closer.
