Time for the Hobo's Annual Barleywine Bottleshare is approaching. Obviously, it's BW focused, but some change of Pace and Palate Cleanser brews are always welcome as well. If you're interested, message me here for full deets, but the basics are 2pm, Saturday March 28, Bellingham. Easy off/om I-5, hotels/motels nearby (walking distance).

Giving myself a bump here. Barleywine is next weekend, and if you've got a BW itch, here's the place to scratch it.

Terry. You mentioned in an earlier post that the hobos are game to mix things up a bit. That the event isn't strictly a barleywine only gathering this year.

Would they possibly be amenable to some ba impy stout this year?

I'm sure that if we waited until after some sampling has been done, the gatekeeping will diminish. These are The Hobos after all, and they're not inclined turn turn away a nice beer.

I ran into Dan yesterday at Structures and asked him this question. He considered it for a few moments and eventually said only if the stout has the word "wine" in its name.

    LOL!

Hmmm... perhaps I'll leave them in the car and pose the question a couple of hours in. I can always take the bottles back home if the answer is still no.

Eh, we can just call it a 'palate cleanser'.

We can make the case that it was fermented in the same tank as a Barleywine.

Terry. Do you happen to know what's going on with the I-5 closure just south of Bellingham? Online information indicates the closure is significant and indefinite, and that travelers should expect "heavy" delays.

This is true. I wouldn't expect it to be cleared by Saturday at this point. If you have the time, I'd suggest getting off I-5 at the Chuckanut Drive (Rt. 11) exit in Burlington, and taking that up into Fairhaven. The official detour is at North Lake Samish. I'd suggest taking the South Lake Samish Exit (Nulle Rd.), turn left at bottom, and then a right just after you cross under I-5. That road parallels I-5, and will get you into the traffic line ahead of the folks getting off at North Lake Samish. Anyway you cut it, it's gonna be delayed.

Yeah, one that covered both lanes of NB I-5. Links in my reply to John above.

@John_M here's some pics from today. Lots of progress, but still a lot to do....

@John_M , and anyone else who might be thinking about a last minute dash up, the above still holds true, I-5 will not be open by tomorrow. Another thing to be aware of is there's a No Kings Rally/protest scheduled for downtown that will booger up traffic through the downtown core for a few hours mid-day. I suggest staying clear by getting back on I-5 when you can.

Just seeing this now. Been in Hawaii and then catching up on all the work I missed while I was away. Suffice to say I won’t make it to your shindig—have to drop our daughter off at SeaTac tomorrow morning for a flight back to central/upstate NY to complete her first year in college (hopefully she’ll avoid transportation issues and ICE entanglements) and then I’ll likely try to find a No Kings event here in Seattle to attend. As it happens, I opened this beer today—before seeing this thread. So I’m kind of joining you in spirit anyway. Hope you all get to enjoy some 3RM tomorrow. Cheers!

I went through SEA a couple weeks ago with zero problems on TSAs part, so unless things have changed drastically, she should be OK. While you're there, you could just grab an Alaska Air flight to BLI, which is near the share.......

We flew out of SeaTac 3/17 and had no problems—other than being diverted to San Jose instead of flying nonstop to Lihue (something about 150-knot winds over the Pacific and not having enough jet fuel). In fact I did the Spot Saver thing and they just waved us through to the general line because traffic was so light. But that was a Tuesday afternoon, so who knows.

Dan gets a start on the activities by popping open a Rainier. Not sure if that counts as a 'beer' though.

The first Bshizzle of the day is Burial Virtue of Patience BBA. Nice beer to start with.
