Went to Blackback pub today and they had a really good beer menu and their food game has really been improved. My wife was happy….
Saw this pop up on my instagram today. Got me curious, what are the other 8 places that have hill farmstead cans to-go? I think I can name 2 others - willey’s and the genny Craftsbury. I also had a can at blackbird bistro in Craftsbury but I think they was for dine-in only. curious what the others are, but also if there’s any on southern part of the state around Brattleboro?
I’m sure Beverage Warehouse in Winooski will be one of them. It sounds like they have occasionally had 4 packs for special events
I'd be surprised if it goes much further south than Waterbury, but I guess we'll have to wait and see.
I just may have to try some more HF... but what I have had at Reservoir and Blackback in WBury were average at best, to me.... We'll see.... Prost!!
I had Marie, Edward, and Society & Solitude this weekend. S&S was fire. The other two were forgettable. Tastes change, I suppose. But all the Alchemist I had (including Heady on tap) tasted great.
I'm guessing this is in addition to the several local places (I know of 4) that get cans/bottles already. I saw that the Bevie and The Local are also both going to start carrying cans.
I hope the day never comes when I consider Edward forgettable. And Mary is about as good as an American-made German-style Pilsner as I’ve ever had.
idk what's up with all this slander here lol Those are both top tier beers in their respective styles, not to mention their superb mixed fermentation and big barrel aged beer programs.
I’m rarely going to VT for NOT an HF run these days, but man what a nice little upgrade for ski season. Tell me Woodstock is on the list too so I’m covered regardless of Sugarbush, Stowe, or Killington and baby you got a stew going.
I may or may not be on the record saying this, but Arthur is in my hypothetical six pack for the rest of my life, so it's not HF slander (or at least not trying to be so). I've had Edward a few times now in the last five or six years that I've considered it "forgettable." It's not bad by any means -- it's just no .394 Pale Ale by AleSmith. As for Marie, maybe it's just better off Lukr on the deck overlooking a beautiful part of Vermont. I wouldn't doubt it! Setting means a lot. Subjectivity, folks. I love the heirloom tomatoes at the local farm stand. I bet there are people who prefer the Roma (they're wrong lol).
I do think that Lukr makes a huge difference with lagers. Not sure setting alters my appreciation as much as pouring method. The one thing I will say about drinking at HF is that they take pouring beer very seriously and take great care of their draft lines. So you're probably not going to find a pour of Marie/Mary/Poetica/etc as on point as at the brewery.
I agree about presentation, taplines, and lukr (and while I'm agreeing, also the subjectivity of drinking a nice beer in beautiful rural VT). Lagers are so detail oriented, and those things make a pretty difference.
Just looking at the HF web for bottle prices... are they for real? $50 for a 375ml BA Barleywine? $30 for another 500ml BA BW? Yikes!! I'm sure they're selling.... but not to me... Prost!
