I tried it and it's weird. Your brain keeps getting confused with the maple flavor coming in on the back end of the IPA flavors. It was worth trying, but I would not buy it or drink it again.

quick correction on my part. Was emailing with the TH people. Because of a weird classification difference, since lactose is a sugar and not a protein, it is an "intolerant" in this situation, not an "allergen." Therefore, the TTB (the beer labeling people) doesn't require them to state it on the label.

Both SS and SS+VB originally were Sweet Milk Stout on the labels. Recipe has never changed, but when TH updated their labels "to comply with TTB requirements" they changed it to "Stout with coffee" and "Stout with coffee and vanilla beans". Now there's no mention of milk or lactose on the can as an ingredient, which is legally fine, but, IDK, seems like an odd omission, should't the can have the same milk mention as the ordering descriptions? (Hide Single Shot from your vegan friends!) The legal comparison of an actual allergen would likely be HOTS, which says "(contains peanuts)" right up top in the description.

Anyway, at the end of the email, they said this: "If you find that you have an intolerance to dairy/lactose we advise our guests to avoid all of our stouts." Even tho they don't all have lactose, they've seemingly streamlined the explanation for their employees.

Wafflebanger was an ok weird sort of beer that’s worth a try but would not be repeat buy for me.
King Julius however has been fantastic the last few times I bought it. Definitely worth buying a four pack.

Speaking of sweet stouts. Which if the not-as-sweet dark beers would you recommend? Bear or catharsis? Both sound really good. I’m a fan of some hops coming thru in a dark to add some earthy complexity. Both seem to fit that description.

I like Bear a lot. Bear w/ a hint of coffee even moreso.

They’re both very good but bear is less sweet. Also was not a huge fan of coffee catharsis but I think my taste for coffee stouts just isnt what it was

You will like both. Bear w/coffee is one of the best brown ales you can get imo. Space and Time is a non-adjunct stout that's not very sweet

Looks like that treehouse spreadsheet stopped a little while ago. Is it safe to assume that some of the special can designs of the flagship beers could be fresher batches? For example the Red Sox Julius and the Anime edition of King J. I’ve been watching and they seem to have been released more recently.

I also noticed Lights On is not for sale in Deerfield on the website yet. I’ve been watching pretty closely but I don’t know if it already sold out, or just hasn’t made it there yet. There are beers that were posted on instagram later that are already for sale there

It seems the special can designs are filled with the same beer as the standard cans. The descriptions on the online order page state this on many of them. I think Tree House is using a company to do digital printing on blank cans. They must get a fast turn on these, as the can labels for the special runs have "current" themes.

I just looked online, they are listed in Charlton but not Deerfield. My guess is they will show on the Deerfield site tomorrow...

Yeah, it’s just the current batch of the beer getting some of it put into a can with an alternate design, which is interesting…I guess. Proper cans for every beer now is kinda cool.

Ok so sounds more like the same batch and just a portion is going into special cans rather than it being a whole newly brewed batch going in those cans.

All that is and all that ever will be.

For the abv, basic adjuncts, no barrell, and price point. This milk stout is absurdly un-fuckwithable. It’s just so god damn good. Medium to thick mouthfeel with the perfect amount of choco and coffee. It’s velvety on the palate. And I have no shame saying that 90% of places I visit, who have a 6.5% milk stout. Serve me a watery, llallo cut cocoa powder, green pepper laden, ash tray flavor and cigarettes taste Bizzaro milk stout to ponder. (Todd M is obviously excluded from this)

Grabbed a four pack again after grabbing it as my single pour the last two visits.

Speaking of that, I miss That’s What She Said.

It's funny because I once said it was my least favorite TH beer but that's just not accurate. Ridiculous flavor for a sub 6% stout.

I wasn't a big fan of milk stouts. This was the one that changed my mind.

Snagged very dddoubleganger. Glad I did. Very dense mango smoothie body and the 9 percent is well hidden. It tracks as an amped up variant on the king Julius base, which I was also enamored with.

Haze is super orange juice forward as it says on the can. I’m enjoying haze this go around more than ever had. I always clocked it as more of a peach forward beer, which I do get a little more as it warms up. Could give this to your friend who doesn’t like beer but likes mimosas. I’ve always grabbed daze if it’s available and neglected haze, but I’m liking this in its original form.

I'd love to hear more about how they made these Prestige beers. New one's good too. Some kind of hop magic with Coleman Farms.

With Alchemist seemingly shipping everywhere now, ME getting PTY etc., what are the chances that TH will start to distribute?
