Oh man, I totally missed that when I was looking yesterday! It seems like a good gamble to me, I just ordered too. On the one hand, these must be from the barrels that no one wanted to buy (or maybe someone forfeited their order)... on the other hand, I have pretty high confidence in any small batch beer from them that gets this close of attention. Looking at Untapped, it looks like there were many variants in 2024, and not all of them rye (unlike the year that was all amburana). If each batch is different there's likely no good way to tell. However, the several rye variants that are rated all seem very positive.
FYI regarding free shipping of cellar beers with purchase - they're still working on site updates but if you email them after placing the order they'll correct what you were charged.
They did this for me last month - I did not even bother this time around as my last box hasnt even shipped yet. Figure by the time shipping is sorted out I'll add my current cellar bottles then... lol
I haven’t heard anything about mine (NY). It’s been 40 days now. That’s pretty sketch if you ask me. I’m not inclined to put another order in at this point.
Same here in Texas, I did place another order a few weeks ago, so I have 2 orders waiting for them to sort out the shipping issues. I'm not going to be placing any new orders until it is sorted.
I decided to open my last bottle of Thr3e after the post from @ernh . I'm happy to say that my bottle tastes great. No off flavors. Just a wonderful BA barleywine.
Opened a bottle of the new BT Rye. It's one of the thinnest bodied BT's I can recall in some time. The flavor doesn't suffer for this, but I prefer a fuller bodied BT. The 2022 Rye BT I'd actually noted had an above average creamy body texture. Very boozy of course, but it's not harsh for a fresh BT, so credit given there. It's very dry on the BT spectrum, which is interesting. The chocolatiness of the malt comes through a little more than usual I think. The barrel is huge. Really in your face. I don't love it. I don't dislike it. I'm very interested to see what age does to it. I'm very curious to hear other's opinions.
Has anyone outside of California gotten an update on their orders that haven't shipped? I've got an order that's about 2 months old at this point that hasn't shipped.
“Shipping to certain states has been temporarily paused”. I don’t know any specifics and was not provided an estimate.
Yeah, this is what got about 3 weeks ago: "We’re currently in the process of transitioning to a new fulfillment partner, which has temporarily impacted our ability to ship orders to certain states." I guess we continue to wait.
Shake & Date Finally trying this one. It's good. It's too sweet for my taste, but not objectively "too far". I can see many folks loving it. The base Musket is still awesome - I think it's going to be a good hearty canvas for other variants for sure. The adjuncts in this one are well done from a flavor perspective, though there is a lot of cinnamon once you look past the sweetness (fine with me, I could see it being too much for others).
I'm so confused by the "archive sale" email today It starts off saying the sale starts April 21... then it says the sale is live now... then it shows a preview of the sale, which appears to be all the archive stuff that has already been on sale the past two weeks.
Black Sails Serenade This is great. There's a lot of adjuncts piled in, but they meld together well and nothing seems overwhelming or out of balance. Cherry is the most noticeable and I think it's nice. Some Untappd I saw though the cherry was overpowering. Perhaps there are bottle variations, but I'd call it more subtle. I'm not sure what base it is... it's either a thick BT... or a thin Monster... or a boozy Bayonet... whatever it is it's good. Really my only qualm is the price point. Perhaps moot since it seems to be sold out now anyway. I think $20 pre-discount would have gotten my attention. But $25 feels like double-barrel BT territory, which this is not.
They haven’t even responded to my latest emails about shipping. At this point I’m waiting to get an email saying ‘oh sorry if you live in states x, y, z you no longer can have beers shipped.’
