Founders Double Trouble.....tastes like gym sweat in a glass.
Allagash Odyssey....good but not worth 17/bottle. Much better aged for less money.
    Stone Old Guardian
    Fegley's Insidious....should be called Average

I suppose I should add Hopslam on firkin. It was watery and the only took away some of the booziness.

Oh....how could I forget RR consecration? This beer had a dreadful flavor and way too much carbonation in attempt to mask the funk. All that money for literally half a glass of foam.

I'm surprised you hated Foothills Baltic Porter so much. I shared one with the staff at work and everyone lived it.

Goose Island Honker Ale. It just came to NJ this week and my local pub tapped one on Friday. It was OK. I guess my expectations were too high based on everything that I'd read about the brewery.

I know I'm not a big IPA fan but I was really dissapointed in Pliny and Daisy Cutter :grimacing:

Also Black Ops and Abyss are a huge let down

I agree...Sucks is not Lags best effort, not bad but not great. DFH has no 'pop' to me. Whenever I drink a DFH brew it just seems to lack something to me. I can't put my finger on it, it just comes up short.

Dark Lord '10. Not bad by any means, just nowhere near as good as I expected.

Well not exactly disappointed, but FBS didn't really pull the rug. Too much coffee. Too dry, needed a tad sweetness.

Flower Power...I don't understand the craze around this one. I had a fresh six pack, and consumed all of the bottles within 4 days. Tasted like a watered down IPA - not very balanced either. Mouthfeel was way too thin. Just didn't taste great.

Anyone else share my thoughts on FP?

Double Trouble made me long for Harvest Ale, a far superior beer.

Allow me to preface with a short story.

In my relatively short beer journey, I have often sought out some of the highest ranked beers in their category (as I'm sure 99% of the people here have).

When I acquired my first KBS and tried it, it blew my mind. I thought I liked stouts, and I thought I knew what good stouts were. This was just on another level. Everything melded together perfect. Lots of complexity but lots of balance and complimentary flavors. It really opened my eyes to how good a barrel-aged stout could be.

Then, I got my hands on some Westy 12. It raised the bar for how good ANY beer could be. It was astoundingly good, I've still never had a quad that's even close.

Time moves on and I got some fresh PtE, fully expecting the same sort of experience. Unfortunately not. It's a good DIPA. An excellent one at that, but it's just another DIPA like so many others. There was really nothing that set it apart. It's a top 5 or top 3 for sure (I think I ranked Heady and Hopslam higher), but the gaps are so close unlike a KBS or a CBS where nothing I've had can even touch them. So it was a disappointment but mainly due to the hype.

Finally, my true disappointment for having such high expectations was J.W. Lees. Top 10 english barleywine, I could barely drink it. I tried an aged one and a fresh one, they were sickly sweet and cloying and it took me forever to get them down. It was like drinking syrup. What's even more odd is that I have a sweet tooth and I love big sweet beers. Southern Tier Choklat, Rogue Double Chocolate? They are amazing to me.

*shrug* I chalk it up as a matter of different tastes and perspectives

Really wanted a nice pumpkin beer, but no pumpkin taste here. Quite deceiving.

You might be the first person I've ever heard say anything bad about Hop Stoopid. I can't agree or disagree because I've never tried it.
