Hey All, I'm wondering what your favorite downtown la beer spots are? Which would you choose for a saturday afternoon lunch? Any nice outdoor spots?
The Golden Gopher in downtown. They have an outside patio, outstanding beer selection , great ambiance.
Check out Bottle Rock, was there on Tuesday night before the Kings/Sharks game. They had bottles of PtE and PB in the cooler, didn't check the dates brewed though. They also had Knuckle Sandwich on draft and a few other good IPAs, Belgians, and easy to find things. Far Bar is totally the spot though! I will add Public School because of its location (Central DTLA), Bonna Venture has an increased tap list and the seasonal IPA they brew is on right now.
They have a new happy hour menu also (4 or 5 - 7), a lot of small plates for $5 (Pulled Pork Sliders, 3 Oysters on the 1/2 shell, Tuna Tartar, Chicken Wings, etc). And $4 drafts of Scrimshaw, Lagunitas IPA, BR Hot Rod Rye, and ____ (drew a blank). Yeah the Knuckle Sandwich was $9 for a pint.
Far Bar sweeps. Jimmy is very knowledgeable and is always getting in great stuff. SO many options between what's on tap and how many bottles they have. Others include Escondite, Izakaya Fu-Ga and Wurstkuche, but none hold a candle to Far Bar in terms of selection and rotating taps.
I know it's not downtown area and more holywood but I hit up Roosewood Tavern last night. I thought it was fantastic. They served some nice selections and didn't skimp.
Public School has a solid rotation of brews and fairly knowledgable bar tenders. Spring Street Bar has a fantastic selection of beer and very on-point bar tenders. Also, their happy hour is really dominant (5-8pm everyday... $4 for a pint from any of their 26 craft taps) Plus decent eats. Officially opening this week is Los Angeles Brewing Company! I've been there a couple times pre-opening. 100 beers on tap, huge space, great projection screens, a fantastic chef with fabulous food (including beer-infused desserts). Has an initial Yard House vibe, but really blows it out of the water with the folks working behind the bar. Worth checking out, for sure!
i have to agree with the majority on here... far bar is the place to go... always a great tap and bottle list... and they serve food...
