Horizon Line - Meier’s Creek Enjoyed this with a shredded brisket sandwich. Nice bitter crispness and lemon. They call it a West Coast Pilsner. I say it is a fine example of what can be done outside the traditional Pilsner styles. This one features Citra, Nelson, and Simcoe Hops.
I really regret not going to vonTrapp the last time we were in Vermont, those brews sound great! Getting into a north german style pils from Zillicoah. Perle and Hersbrucker hops were imported from Seitz farms. Totally digging this, white bread up front and black pepper on the back end. Rated 4.35. Cheers! Tom
Getting into the Schlenkerla Doppelbock - Bamberg brewed, canned "fresh" in Oxford, CT. I picked this up at the end of January from one of my "beer gas stations" cooler and it has been in my fridge since - no can dating but it is still tasting fine as the smoked cheese flavor dominates. Cheers! Tom
Maybe my brain has misplaced a few cells, but does anyone have experience poking a super smoky beer like what Schlenkerla produces? Let’s just say…
So, your mind is enquirering… How about this? https://getyarn.io/yarn-clip/65fc59a1-d43f-49bf-bd43-539bac2fc09e
The only beers I've had that were even remotely similar to Schlenkerla, in terms of smoke, are the Alaskan Smoked porter and Rogue's reserve smoked beer. Now that I think of it, there was a brewery out of PA. that made a great smoked beer. Unfortunately, the brewery went belly up some years ago. (Cinder block or something like that).
Nobody in PNW brewing Rauchbier? That's a shame. My favorite local throws one into the rotation periodically and they do Bamberg proud. Though I've never had one "poked." Seems rather redundant.
Randomly stumble upon this thread at the perfect time as I’m sipping a hefe… Von Trapp - Summer Ale (Hefeweizen 5%) Quite tasty and well done, lacks retention even after an aggressive pour, a minor but honest observation. Hitting the spot in this first preview of summer heat here.
