I grabbed a few from the cellar sale - Smooth Criminal, Werewolves of Ecuador, and Black Tuesday 2024. I've always been a fan of Smooth Criminal!
One of my favorites from the last couple years. Basically double Barrel BT at single barrel price. Needs to warm up a bit more than average to open up.
There's several, including Werewolves, I passed on in the past because they felt too expensive for what they were, but I'm looking forward to trying them at a sales price!
Amburana Gem It's pretty good! I was worried the acai was going to send it way off into left field. But while it's very amburana-forward (I like it, others may not), I would describe it as well balanced given all the elements involved. The body is pretty thin. I assumed the brazil nuts would add body, which is usually what nuts do, but nope. I won't buy more, but I won't be sad to eventually drink my second bottle.
I drank a Stacks Reserve Maple tonight. I really like this beer. The maple doesn't over power the barrel notes and rich flavor profile of the BT base. The heat is still there but everything balances out nicely. I think I'd buy another Stacks Reserve box if it comes up again.
I opened an Everything Nice tonight. I've always liked this beer and it's still tasting great. The sale price right now can't be beat. If I'm honest with myself, I don't need more of them - but I definitely recommend!
You may have just pushed me off the fence with this one. The ginger was putting me of, everything else about it sounded nice.
This is the last update I received on May 19th: "Thanks for checking in. We’re still in the final stages of completing the transition to our new fulfillment partner and are getting close to resuming shipping. Once that happens, there will likely be some additional turnaround time as orders are transferred and the backlog is worked through. At this point, we don’t have firm shipping date ranges to share just yet, but we’re working to get everything moving as quickly and smoothly as possible. As soon as your order ships, you’ll receive tracking information right away. In the meantime, please feel free to reach out anytime - we’re happy to provide updates as things progress."
It's getting a little stupid at this point, this was what they sent me on May 5th: Thank you for checking back in, we appreciate you staying in touch. We’re happy to confirm that shipping resumed on 04/27. Your order remains in queue and will be processed as we work through the backlog of outstanding shipments. We know this hasn’t been the experience you expected, and we truly appreciate your continued patience. Please know your order is secure, and we’ll get it out as soon as possible. Once it ships, you’ll receive tracking information right away. As always, feel free to reach out anytime - we’re happy to provide updates as they become available.
I'm not generally a fan of saisons or anything considered funky, but I love a BA Barley Wine, what's your thoughts on Smooth Criminal, does the Saison add a lot to the flavor profile? These sale prices have me tempted to try a few things that I normally wouldn't.
I do not like any sour/funk at all. I loved the original batch of Smooth Criminal from ten years ago because I didn't get any of that. The bottle I tried of this recent batch did have a more district sour character. Not enough for me to drain pour, but a clear no-rebuy for me.
I didn't want to hear that. I haven't had any from the new batch, but loved in from the original release. I was hoping this one would be similar.
The original batch was over two years old the first time I tried it. Fingers crossed the new one is actually similar and maybe the sour fades.
