Hey, Everyone! Last week I created an automated email system that allows me to send weekly updates again, but with no additional overhead. Some of you may have noticed the first run that pointed to this weekend's social media poll. The system worked flawlessly and resulted in yesterday being one of our top 5 most active days within the last two years! I definitely want to keep these Saturday emails going, but also want to ensure they're worthy of being opened by all of you. So, what kind of quick topics, weekly poll questions, or community data points would you like to see in your inbox on Saturdays? Drop your ideas, suggestions, or old-school throwback threads below. I'm listening. Kippis! PS: Not getting these emails? Make sure you've opted in by checking the "Get weekly updates..." box in your contact details and make sure you log into the website on a regular basis. https://www.beeradvocate.com/community/account/contact-details
The occasional reminder the New Beer Weekend and WBAYDN threads still are alive and kicking, along with the tasting threads and other specific threads based on style. That would maybe be a good start. Also maybe another nudge for those willing to update their own BA profile. What are they up to beer related or not.
Good reminder that I need to make more frequent use of the update your status feature. I tend to forget about it for some reason.
I created a personal profile when I started frequently using this site in 2012. Just some funny stuff, but I also had a list of every person that I traded with. Well, somehow all of our profile material disappeared because of some snafu. That said, a member told me how to find my profile info (which I did), but I didn’t re-load it back up. Does any mod know how I can find that info again?
Any upcoming beer-focused travel plans? Which breweries or places are targets? Any specific beers that are driving the location choices?
Maybe include some weekly stats; total number of beers and # added in the past week (since some are obsessed with that), number of posts, number of new threads, etc.
I would like to see a list of the top 5 (or 10) ranked beers that finally make it to 10 BA ratings during the week, as well as the top 5 (or 10) beers in terms of the number of ratings and reviews for the week as well as their average scores or BA ratings if they have one.
What about bringing back the top reviewers feature? Used to be on the home page and the top 20 or so reviewers were listed. Could be a part of the email with top 10 reviewers of the past week? People like lists and gameifying things, right?
Trending Beers. They're listed on the Home page and I always took that mean they're good and available - it's nice to have a spotlight shining the way to something new to try.
It would be cool to highlight (and therefore draw attention to) some of the parts of the site that people don't see if they stay on the landing page. Trading, regional threads, the BIF history on BA, home brewing, etc.
I'd want to know about tasting threads on the go or upcoming ... in fact, I'd love it if every Saturday's message included a tasting thread update that told me when the next one is happening, even if it's a month or two away and even if the update was just repeating the same info over and over. I need *a lot* of reminding sometimes. Any weekly stats or trending beers would be cool.
Two big thumbs up from me on this idea, I like the idea of sharing some data that we wouldn’t otherwise see.
How about a section "This week in beer news". I'm not suggesting full articles, just a sentence on anything noteworthy you've read or heard about. Links optional, we know how to Google.
+1 for industry news / updates. Probably couldn't be weekly, but as often as possible. Beer trivia could be fun, too.
Everything posted makes for fantastic suggestions. Maybe I missed it above, but how about highlighting a brewer. It can be "up and coming" or an "old guard" or it can be a "just because they do 'this'". Just a thought...
