High expectations, but a very big disappointment?

I'll +1 this, with the exception of Darkness, which I liked. Dark Lord and Hunahpu's were both huge letdowns for me.

I will back you on this. I drank IPAs and DIPAs almost exclusively for quite a while and Flower Power just never did it for me. Im not saying it was gross or undrinkable, it just never lived up to the hype for me.

Agreed. To me it was just an average IPA. I'd definetely drink it again if it was given to me, but when I am at a store and I see it on the shelf I look right past it to the next beer. I guess it just dosen't have anything memorable about it.

New Glarus - Belgian Red and Black Top. Both were good and I will purchase them again, but I was expecting to be blown away since they are both GABF Gold winners.

biggest upsets for me this year, not including other years for these beers
    founders double trouble
    surly abrasive and furious
    nugget nectar
    sixpoint resin
    kbs

hopslam was almost in there but I had a couple from different batches that where WAY better then the other batches.

Russian River sours. Temptation and Consecration were good beers, but far from as good as I expected.

I loved this beer for that exact same reason. Taste's are what they are, wish you still had those sixer though.

I very much disliked Yakima Glory (although my GF loved it, again tastes) and Brooklyn Monster Ale (I confess my only drain pour, just too boozy for my evolving palete).

    This thread be crazy.

Anyone reading this thread, even the posters in the thread, are probably seeing some of these entries and saying
"Wow. That's actually one of the best beers I've ever had."

I was disappointed by Dark Lord 11 after opening it on a hot summer day. Opening some months later, I was not disappointed. The first PtE I've had was great. The second was okay. The third was on tap in San Diego, and was far from special. And the most recent was great again.

I've had transcendent Ruination, and "don't waste my time" Ruination.

Shark Pants on tap at FFF (had it at a pub takeover elsewhere and it wasn't right) is one of the best beers I've ever had.

There are very few beers in this thread that, having had a mediocre experience, I would not try again in a heartbeat. I've had good and bad experiences with so many of them... and the good far outweigh the bad. Darkness on tap at Kuma's Corner with a Dreadnaught while we wait for it to warm up... one of the best beer days ever.

I love stouts, but had a hard time with Ten Fidy. Not bad by any means, I think my expectations were just too high

    Dark Lord (sugar water!)
Storm King (have to look at my notes cause I don't exactly remember, but info remember having a hard time believing it was a top stout)
    BA Token (infected)
SN Ovila Quad. Thought it would be great since the other two offerings were pretty good. Completely underwhelming.

IMO...Ten Fidy is one of the (if not THE) best imperial stouts out there!

It's much better on tap. One of the best readily available IPAs in the area.

I have also only had one....so not sure. But my expectations were not that high...being in a can and all

will have to keep an eye for it, I was let down by bottles as well.

I haven't seen it that much lately. Or maybe I'm noticing it. The bottles just don't translate well as is the case with a lot of aggressively hopped IPAs.

I can't agree more, I guess it's my fault for thinking it was going to be earth shattering. I'll take a Sucks or a Sculpin any day of the week

i kinda agree with this, but something about Ruination requires it to be drank shortly after bottling before its old or poorly mishandled
