Who doesn't love HOT CHILI and COLD BEER? Yaga's Chili Quest and Beer Fest returns to Galveston Historic Strand District on Saturday, January 19, 2013, featuring a variety of locally crafted beers and over 80 chili cook-off teams. Visitors to the 4th Annual Chili Quest will be able to sample chili from teams vying to be awarded the Best Chili on Galveston Island.

Returning this year is the expanded Beer Festival. Visitors to the beer festival will be able to purchase a souvenir beer- tasting mug along with a punch card to sample a variety over 100 craft and import beers and chat with expert BrewMasters. The ultimate beer fan is promised rare finds and a few surprises. We are also bringing back the Homebrew Competition and Beer Fest vendors. Due to the growing craft beer scene we have invited those guys (and gals) who are hard at work concocting the next great brew to submit their ales to a panel of expert BrewMasters.

Do you have a beer list?

From the description, this is sounding like there will be plenty of Prohibition Batch 19 and Blue Moon flowing. If you catch my drift.

Website is showing 5 Shock Top varieties, Stella, Red Hook, Widmer, etc. On the bright side, it appears there will be Deschutes, Real Ale, and Stone.

Last year most of the Houston locals were there... but it wasn't a huge setup at all... more of a chili fest with a beer tent..

I'm going, but it's going to be me and my 9 year old daughter... so I don't know if I'm going to mess with the beer tent area... we'll probably just go through the chili tasting.... then hit up Nobi Public House on the way home for a late lunch.

Call Nobi before you go. They had to close down yesterday for an unstated reason.

I might go, how does it work? Is it a flat rate fee and you drink all the beer you want or is it a bunch of tents and pay for individual beers?

I was on the Strand last night enjoying some delicious pizza at The Strand Pizzeria, anyways we went to go play chess on the big ass board and it was covered with tents and dudes saying they were setting up for the chili fest, so far this chili fest is on my bad side.

Last year... it was one beer tent... and you could pay for full pints and tastes... and there were some others giving out free samples....

This year it looks like the beer is a separate payment of around 30 bucks or so... and I don't know if you are getting tickets or what....

Well glad I wasn't planning on hitting the beer fest as when we got there at 10:45 am.... it was already sold out...

As I wrote earlier... last year there was just one beer tent and you just paid for the beer you wanted to try and then there were some smaller tables giving small tastes out for free...

This year as we walked around the chili fest I didn't even see the beer area... so they must have moved it a bit away from the chili fest.. for the price they were charging... over 30 bucks for it... I doubt it was worth it... you'd be better off hitting up your favorite craft bar and spending thirty bucks there...which is what I did..

stopped by Nobi Public House on the way home... had some Ballast Point Black Marlin Pointer, Live Oak Primus and Karbach Weekend Warrior... all very good stuff...

Ha. I spent $30 at the Shell Station. Got a bottle of Maharaja, Green Flash Imperial IPA and a 4 pack of Resin (I have been feeling hoppy all week). I am pleased with my decision.

    i had fun!
some interesting brews/breweries, good sized pours too!
highlights for me- Karbach Bourbon Hellfighter, St Arnolds Bishops Barrel,
Alaskan black ipa and smoked porter and the Beerfoot Oak Aged British Mild
    and Allo Governor IPA.

one of the better beer events i've been too!

How was it set up and where was it in conjunction to the chili fest? I've only been to a couple of beer events, but both had a lot more breweries involved. Did you get a card to stamp? Were you able to buy more tastings?
