High expectations, but a very big disappointment?

1st bottling of Chocolate rain (can't speak for recent batch). CR tasted like cheap vodka mixed with chocolate syrup. Way too boozy and no complexity.

That's just crazy talk. Is Damnation even close to my favorite beer? Absolutely not, but it's extremely well done.

Nugget Nector, just ok at best, I know it's an Imperial Red, but there are too many really good IPA's around that are better, and easier to get.

So far for 2012 it has to be the 3-Sixpoint beers I've tried recently since they've gotten to the buckeye state. Sweet Action, Righteous Ale, & Bengali Tiger were all fairly average I thought, not much jumped out other than the obvious dry-hop they all have in common which is about it, just varying degrees of bitterness between them, not bad, but the shelf is too crowded with choices to buy something average. For 2011 my vote goes to Left Hand's Good JuJu, I had enjoyed many of their offerings, so glad I had on tap before taking a flyer on the sixer, pretty boring overall. Didn't expect the ginger to smash me in the mouth but damn it was weak and seemed more like an after thought than a highlight.

I am completely mystified by your comments... Lagunitias (most of them) Ruination, and Stone IRS are some of my favorite readily available beers. What do you like?

As for my biggest let downs: PTE and dreadnaught, both pretty decent but not world class, maybe VT really is its own world and we just have higher standards. As someone else said all the DFH 750's except for squall, and WWS was just bad. Oh and everything I've had from sixpoint has been really mediocre, seriously disappointing as I grew up in Bklyn and had high hopes.

Just had to point out that your review of it was posted 6 days before the best by date, is that when you drank it? Its not really fair to compare a brew thats about to be taken off the shelves by the brewery to others that are truly fresh....

I wouldn't say that I've had total disappointments in beer, more so just simple letdown. I see a letdown as being a softer, less critical version of a disappointment. One of these happen to be Darkness '11. Very tasty on tap, with a slight creaminess and medium viscosity, but lacking much of the complexity that Dark Lord '11 had when I opened a bottle. Even when I opened a bottle with the girlfriend, Darkness '11 just kind of lacked a real smooth touch that also tested my tastebuds.

PtE was kind of the same way. By and far, one of the best DIPAs I've had, especially for the better balance and slightly fruity flavors that came off. However, I think the hype expected me to be bombarded by something more intense when I finally cracked it open.

Come to think of it, Mikeller Weasel was probably the closest disappointment I've had in recent memory. Not much aroma permeating from the glass, body a little thinner than I thought it should be, with a slightly off flavor that I just didn't care for, even as it got warmer. The taste was similar to a dated imperial coffee stout, where the style is done correctly and you can taste a good malt profile, but the coffee flavor that you think would stand out feels muted and uninviting.

Nice try, but I assure you I had it fresh. I consider it way overrated, get over it. Do you reguarly stalk what posters have said months and months ago??

Boulevard Chocolate Ale. Nasty stuff, not worth the $9 I paid for the bottle.

They are made by the same brewery and almost the same beer. So they will taste similiar! BX is aged in 3 different types of barrels with fair trade coffee infusion thats the main difference between BX and Parabola.

Foothills always lets me down. After how hyped their beer is in NC it should be way better. Their Hoppyum IPA is only IPAs i have ever drain poured.

CBS. We opened it along with a bunch of other stuff. This was the most over-hyped and biggest let down of the night. KBS is so much better, not to mention you don't have to trade an arm and a leg for it.

Beatification Batch 5. Yes, I said it. To me, it dosen't even hold a candle to Supplication or Consecration. Really don't understand the hype on this one whatsoever. Is it good? Decent. Would I buy it? Probably not.

Stone RIS was also disappointing for me. It seemed to get worse as it warmed up. Shaking my head.

all 3 Rocheforts were major disappointments.

same for the JW Lees Barrel Aged Harvest ales. The Lagavulin was ok but the other 3 were awful.

You know they had some bad batches right? Could be possible you got one. That being said it is still not up to par with the rest of Boulevards offerings. You saying it was nasty makes me think you got a bad one though.

I was not that impressed with the 09 Abyss either, just had it about 3-4 months ago
