No we originally had 3 cats Star an all white cat, Rebel an all Black cat and Jasper the ginger tom
Star just vanished 3 years ago and we have just lost Jasper.
Rebel is still here and going strong and after losing her last companion I'm postponing some fine beer to make sure she has some nicer food.

if I see the cans I'll give 'em a go coz I just picked up one bottle of it.

Don't worry too much about it, nothing to write home about to be frank, just damn good for an 8 for £7 offer! Mine must be super fresh too as I live less than a mile from Brains Brewery.

I've got a Rev James that I haven't got around to yet, but the other Brains beers that I've tried have been rather underwhelming. However I've had beers from Rhymney that were solid. What's your impression of the Welsh brewing scene?

    Those all sound lush![/quote]

I'm pumped for them but will need to wait a couple of days for the bottles to settle. God, the wait...

*rubs hands* in short I love it!
Tomos Watkin in Swansea have a solid range - not a single beer I didn't like so far.
Pen-Lon from West Wales have some good stuff too but also a few duds, Choc stout and Gimmers Mischief are my favs.
Artisan in Cardiff are very interesting, doing mainly German styles with a few nice seasonals (had a nice Baltic Espresso Porter the other week)
Bullmastiff in Cardiff seem good, though i've only had their high strength sonofabitch which was very good.
Brains as you say are very underwhelming, their regular beers on tap/cask are very bland. I especially dislike SA/SA Gold.
Rhymney as you say are very solid, nothing brilliant but nothing under average either, they have very good cask seasonals.
Vale of Glamorgan are ok, not had much from them though unfortunately.
Untapped in Cardiff are new too and a bit hit and miss. They do a lovely stout, a decent pale ale and a frankly awful (to my tastes at least) winter beer.
Otley are very good, had some lovely offerings recently.
Celt brewing in Caerphilly looks good (very fancy bottles) but i'm only just getting round to trying their stuff.
Newmans also from Caerphilly are very solid, though they sell their beers in 330ml bottle for some reason, even stuff like their bitter.

Sounds like good stuff - too bad more Welsh beers don't find a wider market. I've got a Celt lager that I might have tomorrow (good branding but this one comes in a clear bottle - booooo). I've also got a bottle of something from Conwy brewery; no idea where they're based.

Ah they're from North Wales so I don't get much of their stuff here, just Welsh Pride from Sainsbury's, which was oh so very underwhelming. Mostly cask-wise my local has Rhymney, Otley, VoG, Wye Valley, Brains.

This does surprise me, I've always found Brain's beers to be pretty tasty including their marching bitter.

Yes their stuff is alot better on cask, it's a shame my local Brains pub does it on some kind of nitro-tap/on tap/whatever they usually serve guinness with to make it all creamy and disgusting.

    That's why

I'm very much missing a fair few cask versions of standard bitters that are now gone.

Oh well, leaving the Calcutta to a week survival pick me up.

    Cracking open the Wild Swan

    well worth a look http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/13029/37493

Wild Swan is great, like everything from Thornbridge. However I can't believe you compared it to Rolling Rock!

    It is good stuff
`i guess I might just have a very rose tinted view of Rolling Rock because on the Alternative rock night at the ritz they gave you a free bottle of it and we are talking a good 18 years since i drank it :S

Actually this Rev James is a bit of alright, I bet the cask version seriously spreads the good word.

I completed my 162nd review, which isn't bad when I've only been on here for about 6 months
