I also redeveloped an appreciation for PNW beer culture. D.C. is learning (went to DC Brau with my brother in law and had some Fou Foune at Granville Moore's), but they've got a long way to go.

I spent a college semester there in 1991, this was before I knew anything about beer. I recall going to a place called the Rathskeller or Brickskeller, something like that. Legendary beer list, something like 500 beers IIRC. I don't know if it's there anymore, don't think so.

If you want a bomber, you have to go to Whole Foods or a bottle shop. Safeway has random six packs of Magic Hat, DFH and the big guys. Totally different than here.

Churchkey was nice, as was Granville Moore's, just around the corner from my wife's sister and husband's place on H Street.

Drank a lot of Bell's, Great Lakes and Brooklyn as they're everywhere. Funny seeing 60 Minute IPA all over the place, since I haven't seen it in Seattle in years.

Also, DC Brau is very interesting. It's the only packaging brewery in the city, so EVERYONE is there. Imagine if Georgetown was our only brewery, that's the best way I can describe. Brought back a 6-pack of The Corruption IPA to share with friends, it's not bad.

I'm having a 60 Minute right now. It was part of a larger order from letspour that arrived today. I ordered a bottle because I'm trying to review the 100 Beers of Fame. 6 more to go. This is really nothing special.

Yep, after I had one on Saturday, I figured out why they don't bother shipping it out to us in Seattle.

Also, stores in DC are terrible about pulling expired beer off the shelf. I was about to buy a 6-pack of Commodore Perry IPA when I noticed it was "best by October 2012."

I moved to Seattle from DC in May 2011. DC is definitely moving in an upward direction. Brickskeller, on the other hand, is no more. It closed a couple years ago. They still had the huge beer list up to the end, but your chances of finding something that was actually available before your 5th or 6th choice was slim at best. It really became more annoying than anything else.

Now back to your regularly scheduled Northwest forum...

I've been to Churchkey. The taplist was really nice and the bartenders were helpful and informative about local offerings. The clientele, however, is soooo not the PNW.

Granville Moore's was a little better, seeing how it's on H Street (gentrifying area full of hipsters).

On behalf of the rich, snobby, stuffed up 1%, I resent that remark. I have half a mind to have my driver run you over.
