I listed beers that were offered in my other league in the OP. I was really happy with the selection, and also that I didn't have to take a week off work to camp out to get my offering.

Also, I've put some work in to draw up some rules. They are in a public Google Doc here. Feedback welcome.

Auction though? That will literally take an entire weekend. We could go with snake the first year, then auction in following years.

I'm especially fond of the 30-year old rule, credit to Duffman.

That 30 year rule is amazing. Will ensure really fun drafts every year.

I'm fully drafting myself in the 30th round.

But I'm 34, so I'll be up for grabs next year after I put up a monster season.

Also, consider me in for a spring training bif so I have something delicious to drink while I draft my empire.

What we did in the fantasy hockey league that just started last week--everyone put up a beer offering as their "prize" and then the league members voted on first to last of what they liked. Whoever puts up the "best" offer of beers, per the league vote, was able to pick what pick they wanted first and then so on and so forth with other. That way, if you feel like you don't want to drop heavy hitters as your 2 beers or just don't have it, it doesn't really harm you, but you just have minimal choice in your draft spot. I think the only restriction is that it can't be a bottle that anyone can just go and grab easily. Either limited distribution or larger limited releases (like a Surly Smoke, Dissident '12). Stuff you'd like to receive if you didn't live in that area. Honestly, in such a deep league, where you draft is not going to make as huge of a deal. Just something to chomp on as an idea.

Also, looked at the google doc. One quick thing-- I think you meant 2 players 31 and older, not 29 and older. Unless I was misreading it.

Buying your place in the draft order?!?!

    Whatever happened to good sportsmanship?

Next thing that you'll tell me is that Lance Armstrong che-

A quick question about the format...

Does our minor league roster of 15 have to be actual minor league guys, and if one of our prospects gets called up in real life are we then compelled to remove him from our minor league roster?

Or is our minor league roster just our own virtual farm system, and anyone can be on it, active major leaguers or minor leaguers, or otherwise?

WOW, this is interesting. We'll have to discuss more.

OK I had the numbers switched, but meant to go with 29/30. See if it makes sense now. I did tweak the ages from what you said your league does, the goal being more players in subsequent drafts. I'm open to discussion of course.

Nice...pulling up the rules now. Since we got plenty of time. Let's have a draft date when each team can affirm they'll be there.

Also, Houston has some great local brews. Just met one of the founders of Karbach last night. He told me about they're upcoming line up for the year...sick limited releases ahead.

Here's some comments off the top of my head on the rules...

I like random draft order for first year then auction there on out...Right on D, definitely would take a weekend haha

Weekly setting though? How about daily. Also, 50 transactions per year? That's pretty limited. I'm for dropping that...

Proboards is a good, free forum.

I get the 30 year rule now. Awesome.

Lastly, on payout. What's a box?

I would love to be in and just sent a BM. Couple questions...

So no free agents over the course of the year? Your 40 man is your 40 man and you just move guys on/off the active roster?

Set on a head-to-head with playoff format or any support for straight 5x5 roto? If you're going hardcore nerd, it's (in my opinion) the most accurate way to reward the best team. (Thumbs up for OBP vs AVG, by the way.)

Also, you have the active roster set to 25, but only 20 starting positions.

I think you may have misunderstood. Weekly setting of your active roster, daily setting of your actual players. As someone else mentioned, there are 25 active roster spots and 20 positions to fill. So you can have extra position players or pitchers to rotate in and out throughout the week. Make sense?

The 50 transactions is call-ups and send-downs between majors and minors. With 20 weeks in the season, that's 2.5 per week, and moving a guy on the DL doesn't count. If you think we need more we can change it.

Sorry, a box is just each individual's 2 beer offering.

Free agents are an issue to discuss. I've never done a league quite like this so I'm open to suggestions.

Agree that it's most accurate way to reward best team, but I think H2H is more fun. Also, I suppose the reason for a dynasty league is realism, and real-life baseball doesn't necessarily reward the best team (however you measure that statistically...run diff?), it rewards the best W-L records and the "luckiest" team in October (according to Moneyball, right?). Anyway, I think H2H makes it more interesting and can develop rivalries, but like everything else we can let the league decide.

I'll get back to everyone that BM'd me sometime over the weekend...gotta get to bed now. Probably still a few spots open so if you're interested still send me a BM with your email.

Very cool. I gotcha now. That sounds fun. 2.5 per week average...that should be enough. Never had experience in that regard but really looking forward to it. Anyone else have experience with it, is 50 normal or too little?

Yeah, roto is definitely my favorite. But I agree that we should do H2H for that "luckiest" team reason.

Free agents, I don't think there will be many free agents to pick from after the draft. Free agents will be nice though to examine which players are moving fast through the minors in August that may not have been on anyone's radar in March.
