It's because they are in charge of distribution. The distributor drops it off downtown and then downtown chooses how much and where to send.

Anything remotely limited by Jester King - They don't send out
Ballast Point - They didn't send out
Abyss - They didn't send out
BBWW - The didn't send out
Countless other things - they don't send out

It's a trend that they have set. For beer, they want to be the cool store who has exclusives among their branches. If you can't get to midtown, you can't have the beer.

Jeez, now I feel fortunate that I got at least 1 bottle...

Typically I try to get at least 3-4 bottles every year.

You and me both... now I'll be lucky for 1.

It was so easy to get before that with no limit, the shelf would still have beers on them... unpossible!!! :grinning:

Uh, Austin has a different distributor for Deschutes than Houston.

Tell them to not suck as much... because CBC is the definition of suckage in Austin.

They got you guys as much as we got, so they can't suck too much... lol

Is there like a cage match in these situations. I'd like to hope there is...

    Neener neener neener! :stuck_out_tongue:

To be honest though, it still went rather quick... I had to go to Bee Caves to find it on a shelf.

Did Deschutes actually up production this year? IIRC, 2010 & 2011 were the same @ 600bbl.

I'm hearing there were infection issues with 2012

Supposedly only 20% of the entire batch was salvageable

These are rumors though so rumor away!

At least they didn't release it. I got an infected one in 2010.

I thought 2009 was the funktacular batch.

I also heard they figured out how to not make infected Abyss. lol

They pasteurize it now. But that's during bottling. If something funky happened in the barrel then it would be unsalvageable.

Any chance this ends up on tap anywhere in Houston? I'd be just fine trying it somewhere that way..

I'm surprised more places in Houston didn't get it

    It's ridiculous!

The higher traffic Specs in Houston (other than Smith) are getting it in a week-10 days. Those same Specs also got Ballast Point this week. This from the mouth of the beer guy at one of those smaller Specs. Also, The Shell station on Blackhawk is getting a case or two tomorrow or Friday at the latest. The owner, Charles (also owns Nobi Public House) told me this today.

No numbers, but this is the response I got when I asked them on Facebook about production after seeing lower amounts in TX this year compared to the last 2. Not sure how much lower the actual yield was.

"We had hoped to increase production this year and although we made more to age, the yield ended up being less then anticipated which meant less of this beer to every area. The TABC held up approval to Texas so it has just been hitting the markets this week in certain areas. It was in Austin and gone in one day. We made more for the 2013 batch so we can send more to everyone so we don't have this situation again. We hope you can still find a bottle this year. We have sold out here in OR. Cheers!"
