Well then I guess I missed out on my millions once again. They need to invest in larger sized pelicans though. Not nearly enough space in those. I had one I could probably get 12-16 in. Storm case may be a more cost effective option... But glad to see people are using them for more than those stupid cameras hahah

Wow. Well guys, I have to admit. This is flattering. I will out myself. I AM BAD TRADER X!!!! THAT'S RIGHT! SHUN ME!

Listen. I would really like to explain my side of the story, though I don't really feel it necessary to. This trade occurred today, I have not even received my end of the trade and there is already a #60+ line item forum post about how I have slighted the beer lords.

Look, I rushed this trade. I will admit it. I returned home this past weekend after a close friend passed and I drove back home on Monday. The OP had already shipped when I had returned, so I wanted to make sure that I pulled through on my end. All I had was packing peanuts (though i typically just use bubble wrap and peanuts (not PVC piping...wow)) and I said, you know what, I'm going to risk it. I've done it before and it's turned out fine and I just pulled the trigger. Bad move. I get it, honestly a mistake I made while rushing myself trying to get the trade out on the same day the OP did.

I have NEVER EVER used USPS, and holy crap, now I see why. They used my package like it was Monday Night Football. The ONLY reason I used it was that the OP did so and I felt I should reciprocate using the same mode of transit. My 100+ trades are, in fact, real. I rarely trade on BA as I have locals located around the nation that I am personally friends with and don't usually need to go to forums to ask for trades. This case was unique in the sense that I wanted to try some Heady and don't have any connections close enough to Vermont to make the trip, so I went with a stranger.

What has bothered me about this entire situation is the way in which I was treated by the OP in his communication. He sent me a BM with a picture of the broken bottle, and I felt terrible, my response was "I am really sorry, this has never happened to me before". His response back was a link to a how to trade blog, and a statement about how bummed he was and the fact that there were no extras and the beer angels were upset with me. I was quite taken aback as, while I understand the bottle broke, he knows nothing about me, my trading history, or my general ethical disposition towards beer trading and began to belittle me. I told him I was sorry that he was so bummed. His response was "I know how most BAs would respond in this situation, and I don't expect that this will end that way."

Really? Why don't you expect that? You have no idea who I am, or what I believe to be just. You never asked for me to replenish it, you merely jumped to a conclusion and made a statement to question my character.

The fact is, from the onset of this situation, I had every intention to replace the beer, not even for a second did I consider not doing this. I apologize for not DIRECTLY saying this to the OP, but quite honestly I believe it is implied just as most of you would and have assumed. The OP made a lot of assumptions about how I would act when he knows nothing about the scenario beyond an admittedly poorly planned packaging attempt. In fact, on my lunch break, I already purchased a replacement and am planing on shipping NON USPS WITH TONS OF BUBBLE WRAP with a nice little addition from my cellar for the beer angels I have so wrongfully hurt. But of course I will not ship until Monday because I would not want to offend the OP who doesn't want fresh DIPAs sitting in warehouses.

It's situations like these that are unfortunate. I am not the BA who makes a fake profile and then cheats people on trades, or trolls the forums being snooty. I am just a guy who, in a rush, did a poor packaging job and has been a loyal BA for 5 years with many positive relationships formed and great people that I have met along the way. And then I come on to see the onslaught of comments about how horrible it must be to interact with me.

You can add me to any bad trader forum or posting you want, as it is highly improbable that I will ever trade with anyone who is not a friend or acquaintance ever again because of situations like this. Just know that I have repaid the beer angels, and all is good and balanced again.

Remember, this is beer guys, beer.

I guess I'm not so quick to jump on this guy as being a terrible trader. He fucked up. We all recognize that. But let's give him the benefit of the doubt. Ok, so he probably hasn't done 100 trades. Maybe he's completed <10. He OBVIOUSLY doesn't know better. So let's all lighten up a bit. I'm sure after seeing this thread he'll feel bad, but even more embarrassed and therefore reluctant to respond. I hope he rights his wrong so let's help him out a bit. How would this be made right? Replace the bottle and throw in an apology extra! That would work for me! Let's just help this guy out and, in turn, improve the beer trading community!

    And as always: http://alewatcher.blogspot.com/2010/11/new-trader-tips.html

P.S. I have no affiliation with either trader.

P.P.S. composed before "Trader X's" response

Dude, a little communication goes a long way. And instead of saying "no worries, I'll replace it," you attacked me for "calling you a newby" when I gave you some packing tips and shared the alewatcher link. With a pack job like that, no profile pic, no real references, and hardly any profile to speak of, how was I to know you've ever done a single trade by mail?

I am really sorry to hear about your friend's passing. I was never "angry," as I said, just kinda bummed and disappointed. We all make rushed decisions that sometimes result in issues. But it's just beer. So really dude, nothing personal here, I just could not believe you seemed to be implying that you had no intention of replacing the bottle.

This is the first issue I've seen with USPS, personally. Have seen many more lost/damaged packages with FedEx and UPS - including a commercially shipped box that UPS trashed. The nice thing is, USPS did deliver the box, despite the damage. More than the other two would've done.

After several messages back-and-forth, all I got from you was "Sorry about that," "the beer angels must not have been looking out," and "I'm not a newby." Then you read, but ignored, further communication. What was I to conclude?

Good to hear. I regret the communication breakdown here. I really didn't want to bring your name into this if we could resolve things via BM, but I'm glad we worked it out in any case.

I dont really see that in this thread. There was a lot of mocking of that packaging job you did (and rightly so) and a lot of people who said that "IF" you didnt replace the bottle then that's a problem, but the consensus was also to wait and hope that you made it right. Sounds like thats happening, so all is well.

    Communication is key.

Looks like Ace Ventura delivered that shit.

It looks like the broken bomber was something from 3 Floyds? If that trader don't follow threw with a replacement. Let me know, I have access to 3 Floyds, and will send a replacement. There are outstanding Midwest BA's out here. Not going to have some
jag bag give us Midwest guys a bad name.

I was reading the first page then seen the picture of the box. Then got pissed off and replied to the pic on the first page. Should of continued on reading but my emotions took control.

J is handling this. Call off the dogs, everyone. Majorly huge example of miscommunication and assumptions making an ass out of... everyone involved. I wish his name hadn't even made its way into this thread. In any case, it's a lesson for everyone - maybe allow 24 hours before freaking out?

I wasn't going to bring this up in this thread (since it was utterly minor and we "dealt" with it over BM) but since you mentioned it I will: my experience was completely the opposite of what seems to have happened in this thread. The box was packed great, tons of extras, just bad luck, and I told laymansbeerfan that I didn't care about the busted can and to not even consider wasting time sending me another (but he insisted on throwing in another the next time we trade  ). The extras (which I lost my shit over as I opened the box) easily offset the loss of one can and then some. The complete lack of them in the box under discussion in here is exactly the sort of thing that's going to make the sting of a broken bottle hurt even more (to be fair, I lost a Surly Coffee Bender can, not a FFF Dreadnaught bomber).

I'm scared to try it... but im pretty damn sure i could copy this using pink foam and a hotwire cutter.. that plus a few layers of bubble wrap could ease many of my fears of shipping things.

I had a weird experience 2 weeks ago. I sent a 6 pack of Pliny to a trader back east. The package arrived intact but the receiver said that one of the bottles leaked from the cap and lost about 1/2 of it contents. No broken bottle. He said that he ended up drinking the half empty beer and it was fine. Luckily, I lined the box with a plastic trash bag.

We left it at that and hope to do future trades.
