Went to Westy's today - no NN, completely sold out. Went to Wegman's, must have had 30 - 40 cases!

Made me think about when PA made the groundbreaking decision to sell beer at Wegmans, but with all of the bullshit conditions we love in PA and how all of the beer distributors cried like baby's about how it would destroy them for all time? Seems like things have changed a bit.

Same thiing happened with Hopslam. Westy's out in a couple of days, cases upon cases at Wegmans. Seems Westy's cares more about Wegmans now than those of of us who made them king of craft brew in central PA.

So my advice to you my BA friends is to skip Westy's for big time seasonals and go to Wegmans. Save yourself grief and time.

Jeez. They wanted to get it out to all of there accounts as quickly as possible and like it or not Wegmans is one of their biggest customers. Troegs still has plenty in the tanks just waiting to go into the bottle, I am sure Westy's will be getting more cases when the second round goes out soon. If you want a case that bad just drive down to the brewery and get one.

I don't understand why this is a bad thing either (Westy's actually "distributing" their merchandise). While it's nice that they also have a retail outlet at their facility, aren't they first and foremost a distributor? Personally, I appreciate the fact that I don't have to drive to Westy's in order to purchase merchandise that they import/distribute (unlike a certain other distributor that will remain nameless). Frankly, I give Westy's kudos for making beers like Hopslam and NN available to so many more accounts (including Wegmans), and thereby making it increasingly easy to find those beers over the regional area.

I really don't understand why this seems to bother the OP.

Yeah, what's up w/ Collegeville Wegmans?

That pub should be on a beach next to an ocean of orange by now.

I never saw Hopslam at Wegmans this year... Maybe I totally missed it, but I'm in the Collegeville location once a week just to browse as I drive past it coming home from work. Last year when I asked if they were getting it, they didn't know what I was talking about.

Honestly, I've noticed Wegmans (collegeville specifically) getting fewer 'specialty' releases and sticking to just the basic seasonals.

I wish that some of you would do your homework before bashing someone. Too often that is the case here (not with everyone). You speak, while only assuming you are right. Bashing or praising the wrong person or establishment, seems to be the rule with a lot of you.

Do a little research (and that does not mean asking the drinking budy you are with at the time), or get into the business yourself.

You need to bash, or praise, Wilsbach Distirbutors, Inc. That is who Troegs has contracted with to distribute their products in Central PA. They are the entity responsible for getting Troegs beer out in Cumberland County. And they do a good job of allocating their products accordingly. Also, just in case you are not sure where Westy's or Wegman's in Mechanicsburg is, they are both in Cumberland County.

Do a little reasearch. Give George his praise for bringing so many great beers to Central Pa., and don't bash him without understandeing the system correctly. Not to add work to George's day, give him a call if you have a question, if he is not available, you can always call me or my wife....Cisco and Nikki, Brass Rail Beverage and Deli.

Westy's is the largest volume craft retailer in Central Pennsylvania. Simply put, Westy's often receives the largest allocation of specialty craft beer in the market but always sells out first. In this case again, this is what happened.

In the case of Nugget Nectar, Troegs is distributed in the market by Wilsbach (A-B) and the amount of beer Westy's retail receives is determined by their company, not Westy's.

Everyone always wants to get bent out of shape and claim there's some sort of conspiracy when it comes to limited or seasonal beers. There's really no conspiracy. Demand simply exceeds supply....retailers receive an allocation of product and deal with what their given. In our case as a wholesaler (for Bells), we cannot hoard beer for our own retail shop, we have to distribute the beer the best we can to the accounts in our network as outlined in our contract with Bell's Brewing.

We appreciate your support and we think very highly of the other great craft accounts in the market.

If you feel a need to bash me or our business, I support your right to do so.

Your Friend and Fellow BA (Since 2002),

You can bring the best beers in the world to the market, bust your ass 15 hours a day for years and years, and yet people will always second guess you and act like you're Satan. When I retire from the beer business, I hope people remember me not as the one who made a significant contribution to the community bringing breweries like 21st Amendment, Abita, Allentown Brewworks, Ballast Point, Blue Point, Brooklyn, Butternuts, Clipper City, Dogfish Head, Duck Rabbit, Erie, Harpoon, Lancaster, Oskar Blues, Sly Fox, Stone, Terrapin, Weyerbacher to the market but rathher as the guy that ALLEGEDLY kept you from buying a case of limited release beer on a Saturday at Westy's.

Oh, it's true. Of course, you can't BUY a case at Wegmans (without making multiple purchases of 2x6 packs). But I happened to go in the weekend that it was released, apparently, because there were chest-height displays of full cases. $19 or $20 per six pack - enough to make me say "no thanks" and get some other brews instead. I ended up buying a single at Al's - and glad I did. I can't understand why this beer is talked about like it's the nectar of the gods. Delicious? Yes, it was great. But not that great.

Just so the op knows, the brewery is completely out of cases of NN at this time as well. Perhaps a thread bashing them for something they can't control is needed too.

Westy's, and more specifically George, is one of the hardest working distributors and appreciative retailers I've ever come in contact with. They bust their ass to bring great beer into this part of Pennsylvania, god forbid they sell out of their allotment of a certain beer.

I'm surprised, only because around here even if they had that much hopslam, it would have been purchased within a day or two.

Here's the point boys, remember how hard it was to get beer anywhere reasonably in PA until Wegman's came into the market? Remember how it was the beer distributors who kept that from happening for years and how hard they fought so hard to keep Weggie's from ever getting beer?

Now you can only get these beers at Wegmans unless you can time a visit to the distributor to coicncide with what they sell to the public. Oh yeah, guess I could drive for an hour to the distributor. Great advice!

Amazing how this has all changed in the course of a couple of years.

I love the convenience of Weggies, Wish you could get more than two six packs at a time and also buy wine and spirits.

So please put on your chill face George. We love you for what you've done and do. Could just be the dinosaur is dying...
