Trade advice: Surly Darkness for Cherry Rye

If you can land a bottle of 2011 or older I would go for that. Had 2011 around christmas as well as a 2012 and the 2011 was drinking great. Not to say 2012 wasnt good, but a little age on Darkness does wonders for it. Good Luck.

have you had them both before? if you havent had the cherry rye, split it with a friend, i doubt you will be disappointed. i'd prefer that over darkness, myself.

You guys clearly don't understand why the rest of us trade beer.

 

Then stick with Cherry Rye, as Darkness is brewed every year in fairly large quantity.

 

Drink the Cherry Rye.

 

Darkness is an amazing beer, but it is brewed every year and availability seems to be higher each year. Cherry Rye will not be made again, drink that.

 

My general rule of thumb is to not trade something that I havent tried already (unless it is of a style I just am not into). Why trade one beer you havent tried yet for another you havent tried yet?

 

I'm with ant880 man. Don't trade something you haven't even tried! There seems to be too many folks buying beer just for trade bait. If I can only get one bottle, it is getting either enjoyed by myself or I will share with other locals at a bottle share.

Don't miss out on a beer because you have beer trade dollar signs in your head!

 

It looks like you are trying to trade for another bottle of Cherry Rye, unless you made that trade in one day and this is the bottle you speak of. If you end up with two bottles, I see no harm in trading one for Darkness and drinking the other. Either way, it sounds like Cherry Rye is something you'd be interested in having, and if you've never had it, why not drink it? As others have said, it's more limited than Darkness, and if it's really a coin flip for you on taste preference, you might as well go with the more limited release. Personally I think it's a little silly to trade away something you've never tried, unless you're sure you won't like it. Good luck either way!

 

Cherry rye is a better beer, and MORE RARE, which is the real reason you should keep it.

Post up a FT:Cherry Rye ISO: Darkness vert, and see how it goes.

 

Both are great. Trade value wise you can easily get a '12, likely a '10 or '11, but not an '09. Just my guess (I personally think '10 is drinking the best right now).

 

Wasn't Cherry Rye super limited? I remember seeing people asking for Cable Car for it on Black Friday so I just assumed all of those trades got done.

Ask for nothing short of 2007 Darkness, just to be safe.

 

I've seen it get done a couple times. The other guys only had to add a couple Rares.
