Tried El Cedro over the weekend. It smelled amazing. Tasted deliciously woody.

Anyone else find the new batch of Boxer's not as flavorful as the old one?

Noticed for the JK tasting room hours this weekend (2/16) that they're featuring "Experimental Sour Red Blend". Interesting.

Hopefully El Cedro gets label approval this week so I can buy some this weekend!

looks like they will also have funk e-star as a guest tap, I really liked this when I tried it at whip in

RU-55 was a bit of a let down. Overly tart and lacking in funk, with a too thin mouthfeel. The other two tasting partners agreed. The up and down JK journey continues.... Flame away!

Here's my deal with the RU. I had it for the first time @ the 2yr and it was fantastic. Enough that I took home 2 bottles. Those bottles? Horrible tbh. Then I see it @ specs and realize that they have the new cap. I pick one up and it's great. The 2 I got from the anniversary party have the old bottle cap, are flat, thin, and just horrible.

That being said, I'm curious as to which cap was on your bottle.

Very excited about El Cedro bottling.

Pretty sure it was the new cap. Just wasn't to my taste or what I would like in a balanced sour.

You shouldnt expect funk in a flemish red style. That said I thought it was a little thin too.

I think I'll get this beer at next release. No funk = goodness.

Most Flanders are not balanced in my experience. Red Poppy, Oude Tart, even Jacobins are very singular tart notes (to take some accessible quality examples). Other with more experience can chime in because I may be wrong about what a classic example constitutes.

Also I'm not sure if Flanders are supposed to be thick. Again thinking about the 3 I mentioned above and only Oude Tart was noticeably thicker than the others including RU-55...and this was probably because the carb on it is outstanding.

Not that your opinion about the beer is wrong at all..I liked the crap out of it and would probably rank the 3 American examples I've mentioned Oude Tart, RU-55 but pretty dang close, the flat ass bottle of Red Poppy in last place.

popped a boxers b3 tonight, the carb is good but I felt it was somewhat less tart then previous batches, maybe it's just me still an excellent beer hides the 10%abv quite well

Not a beer expert by any means...just following my taste. Going by the listing of RU-55 in the BA Wild Ale category instead of Flanders. So which is it?

Flanders fo sure. And no worries very truthfully. Me... I love the funk level to be maxed. I just wasn't expecting it from this brew...but I am expecting this brew to be revisited and better in the future.

I sure wish I could find a few bottles more of it to boot

El Cedro got label approval. I expect (hope) that it will be on sale this weekend at Stanleys

Flanders should be medium-bodied according to BJCP. http://www.bjcp.org/2008styles/style17.php#1b

I've had one bottle of RU-55 and I gotta say it was pretty spot on as far as the style goes and was mighty delicious.

I like the radio show spot they did. All you dudes need to check it out if you haven't.
