I got this in a trade and was under some impression it was a bomber. I don't know why. Either way, I would rather not show up to a large tasting with a 12ozer...

Is there a market for this or has it peaked?

I suggest getting a 12 oz of the newest release and doing a side by side. In my opinion the years are drastically different and I personally like comparison tastings.

...Uh, drink it yourself?...Why does it have to be opened at a large tasting...?

Beer is a social drink. I rarely if ever drink alone and I cannot tell you the last time I opened a bottle without splitting it at least half way.

I don't think anyone would complain if you showed up at a tasting with a vintage Cherry Adam FTW, regardless of the bottle size.

    What the!

I'm serious, does any other BA's feel this way? No offense but if I stop cracking bottles by myself you all feel free to break into my house and steal my cellar because that would make me a fraud.

Ohsaycanyoubeer might be the only person on this entire site who doesn't drink beer by themselves. Beer is just a beverage - a beverage can't be social. Beer works great with friends and great by yourself. Quite frankly if you really want to taste and enjoy everything a beer has to offer, you pretty much need to drink it without distraction.

I agree with ohsay...relative to beers unobtainable in my area or older vintages. Tis why we have tastings (whether small or large). I honestly cannot wait to invite others over when i get an awesome box in the mail. Share 'em!

I share anything cool I get through trades but I'll certainly kill a bottle to myself of something from the shelf.

Exactly. This idea that beer isn't to be drank alone shows me a new group of beer seekers jumping on board as a fad with no real passion or inherent enjoyment for the product. It wouldn't bother me if I wasn't finding it harder to get releases every year from 11 forward, heck i haven't even found a BA Bigfoot yet.

In my best South Park voice, "they took our beers!"

I think you're missing the point of his post. At least i didn't take it as, "i wont drink alone ever!" I could do the same with your post and surmise that you dislike tastings because they're faddy, social gatherings where no passion exists for the "product."

I think you are absolutely off base. Think about it this way:

I get a Cherry Adam. My friend gets a DarK Lord. Another friend gets a Hommage. We could all just drink our respective beers, enjoy them, and be on our way. However we find it more enjoyable to be with our friends, share our beers so that each of of us gets an opportunity to try three beers instead of just one.

Sharing drives MORE passion and enjoyment for beer because it allows you to enjoy so many more styles, breweries, regions, beers that would be possible if you just drink everything in your dark basement.

I grew up and was taught that kindness and generousity are characteristics that we should strive for. I feel that bringing people in on the bottles that I have traded for, especially one's that they will never see on the shelf (like Cherry Adam) can help get more people passionate about craft beer even if that is just swapping out their usual Bud Light for a 6'er of Hotter than Helles.

Now don't get me wrong - I really wanted to use pop open the Cherry Adam and just enjoy it, but then I realize that it is a waste when there isn't someone else having the same excitement.

I'm sorry if my sharing causes you to lose out on the releases that you used to have near unlimited access to.

Just because you don't mean what you say doesn't mean I'm off base. Don't try and retract now that you were exposed. This was pretty clear cut and not about sharing.

Why not both though? Some beers I like to share, some I like to enjoy by myself.

Fact is, it's really hard to get a good feel for a beer splitting a bomber 5 ways, tasting 10 other beers in the same session, and dealing with all the conversation/commotion/etc of a tasting. That's totally fine for some beers. But sitting at home and slowly sipping a bomber over 2 hours provides me with a much more interesting experience with the beer itself.

It really depends on the beer IMO. Something like Black Tuesday is meant to be shared. But a nicely aged quad is better enjoyed quietly and slowly over a wide range of temperatures. To each their own...

How exactly is splitting a bottle not considered sharing? Care to explain that to me.

Alright, so you are just a bully and a jackass. GTFO.
