OK, it's been too quiet around here lately, time to start a fire. Who do y'all think is the best brewery in Washington. Not your favorite, the best. I just pulled a few out of the air in the poll, feel free to list your vote via limerick, haiku or poem.

Well, there's only 10 slots in the poll, and over 150 breweries in the state. Plus, I'm just trying stir things up a bit.

Elysian, Pike & Hales have probably earned their way to at least be listed in the poll, no?

Certainly. But I suspect it'll be between BR and Fremont, so I just threw the rest in randomly. Are you voting Pike Hales or Elysian?

    Pike? They made their mark
But not best by any stretch
    Elysian though . . . .

Generally I agree, but right now, after the unholy messes that most of the "Beers of the Apocalypse" were, I've got a wee bit less love for them.

I voted other, but the vote is for Elysian. I listen to Deerhunter more often than the Beatles or the Stones, but I can't say it makes them a better band. I feel similar about Black Raven & Fremont. Very good, very exciting & progressive, need some time before I would call them the best.

Well - to continue your analogy. Deerhunter is a much better band now than the Stones or Beatles (sad face) are...

In the context of being current and exciting- yes. Perhaps this poll should be "your favorite brewery in Washington", as I would consider history, accessibility & achievement as part of what makes the "best". My vote for Elysian is largely rooted in the consistent quality over the years. The pumpkin ales which are among the benchmarks for the style nationally and the massive success of the brewpubs. They are independent, and the ability to open that Sodo location didn't happen by accident. I may not ever want a beet bock, but that is a slight, if any draw from their other achievements.

My.02- I was just surprised when gathering names for the poll that those three were not off the top of his head.

If historical impact is what matters most Red Hook would have to be on the list.
