When visiting breweries websites I notice that some allow me to click on a link that simply says "Yes, I'm 21" while others make you enter your birthdate. What goes into the age confirmation process of a breweries webpage?

You need the physical strength of a person over 21 to be able to click the mouse button.

In all seriousness, it seems like a dumb process but it must fulfill some sort of cover-your-ass policy.

Maybe it has to do with the state in which the brewery is located? Certain states might have different requirements as far as typing the age out or just clicking yes?

I always thought this was a silly little law. What's ever stupider is the thousands of **** sites that are easier to stumble upon and don't ask your age.... not that I would know.

It's annoying, pointless and a waste of time either way.

I've wondered about this, too. Based on my unscientific analysis, it always seems like the larger breweries require you to input your DOB and smaller breweries just ask "Over 21, yes or no?". My cynical self thinks this is a marketing ploy by larger breweries to get age info about their consumers. For that reason, I always make my birthday Jan 1st 1922 or something like that to mess with their research.

For you, but it protects the brewery in a lawsuit prone country.

Its so annoying they make you do that and I'd even argue that kids under 21 growing up today wouldnt even go to a website and would go straight to the brewers Facebook page instead.

Facebook typically wont let you view an American brewery's facebook page unless you're logged in and thus "prove" your're of age, if the brewery page is categorized as being about alcohol. Whilst for non-American breweries there's usually no such restriction in place.

Yep. I think my "birth date" tends to be January 1st of whatever 70's year I'm feeling that day.

Still not proof, as my younger siblings and cousins all have fake birthdates on their pages. Hell, I think they did it years ago to bypass the 13 or 14 year old age requirement to even be a FB member, and then probably forgot to change them years later.
