According to the Clown Shoes Facebook page: Now all you SoCal BA's run out and slay some vampires! Actually, it doesn't say which beers they are sending out west, and it just might be their "big four". On the FaceBook page, there's a link to the distributor but I wasn't sure if that is "advertising" if I include that. Ya'll can look for yourselves if interested.
Facebook post from Liquor Mart Whittier on 2/15: "As promised Clown Shoe is in chocolate sombrero #vampire slayer #blaecorn unidragon#...#muffin top, clementine" I think El Cerrito Liquors has received a shipment of Clown Shoes as well.
Clown Shoes makes mostly great beers that I'm excited to have consistent access to. When did we get so jaded that having a top-notch new brewery distribute to our area came to be treated like an annoyance?
It's always nice to have more options, but is Clown Shoes really considered a top notch brewery? I've had a few of their beers and have always been underwhelmed. Not bad, but certainly not great. Can't see myself opting for a clown shoes beer over what's already readily available in CA.
I'm curious about how well these breweries do in Cali. I can only speak for myself, but, I'm mostly looking for the greatest value in beers so while I'm definitely going to tick these Clown Shoes beers, I'll still go back to buying stuff like 4-packs of Narwhal or sixers of Sucks and Union Jack. I see Pretty Things beers on the shelf for months so I have to wonder if these guys are doing as well as they envisioned.
They're definitely top-notch at naming their beers. Flight of the Pimps? Genghis Pecan? They funny my ticklebone.
It happened a couple years ago when I noticed a trend. Many new breweries who price their decent but not world-class beers at and above $7 per bomber; their main means of sales seems to be through continuing expansion rather than repeat sales. Look at the expansion rates of Nebraska, Pretty Things, Clown Shoes, and Bruery(regular releases), they've expanded coast to coast with small production figures vs. Odell, Founder's, Bells, Surly, those guys only chances of expanding to new territories is to basically build new breweries. There's a big difference in repeat sales between the two lists of breweries and IMO it has less to do with taste of the beer and more to do with value.
Bradley's Fine Wines and Spirits in Tustin is either getting some clown shoes tomorrow or Friday. This was a message from the owner, Mike, today: "I will be getting all their beers depends on the availability, some of them are seasonal and others are special releases, but yeah I will be getting all of Clown Shoes......" Some other out of state goodies should be there next month too. Let me know if you stop by Bradley's. This place is walking distance from my house as is Tustin Brewing. And it's Russian River Week there still ....http://tustin-brewing-company.freshboards.com/beer-board/1u7sph Consecration should be on tomorrow.
