Pretty much exclusively. Lagers that are in my regular rotation include a Classic Rauchbier, a Kellerbier, and a Bohemian Pils. I also brew a hybrid SMaSH Koelsch. Only ale that I brew routinely is a Smoked Mild, using floor-malted Maris Otter.

I assume you mean it's inferior because you don't have the skills to brew a proper lager?

A vegetarian might also disagree with your comparison. Would you say a steak is superior to a pork chop? I wouldn't.

That is complete BS. You've clearly not had any good lagers. I am wonding how a Dopplebock can be flavorless or a hoppy German Pilsner....how about a Schlenkerla Rauchbier? Flavorless water? We aren't talking about Bud Light here cubby.

Bottom line is you just don't like lagers. So what's the point in discussing any further?

Different strokes folks. In my experience I've found that ale yeast is much more flavorful and versatile relative to lager yeast. I don't have the time to brew constantly so when I do I want some bang for my buck

So, again, when you say "inferior" you mean that you lack both the skill and the experience to brew a proper lager? Got it.

That is a much better and less general andswer than this:
I guess I just have a very hard time agreeing with a statement like this when 10% of what I brew is lagers, and 33% of my favorite beers I have brewed are lagers.

We agree. I was just stating my opinion

Ale yeast does offer more flavor in general, and the guy doesn't have a want to brew them...yet you keep pushing the "inferior envelope, I thought we were getting past this.

I thought that was relaxed. I explained why I disagree while at the same time understanding your stance?

Wouldn't it be more like comparing a strip steak to an aged porterhouse? They're both good in their own way, but one just takes a bit more attention than the other.

Maybe you don't understand that I wasn't seeking your agreement with my statement of opinion

Guess you haven't explored the full world of Lagers... Also, no less hassle brewing lagers than ales. Whats the hassle? Controlled fermentation temps and proper yeast pitching rates? Same goes for Ales..

I live in Texas...lager temps are much more difficult to obtain, and I'm always looking to expand my horizons. I'm all ears if you have some recommendations

Maybe you don't understand that your statement of opinion read like a statement of factual information.

Either way have a good day.

If you take any statement that contains the phrase "red headed stepchild" as factual information then that's just a darn shame

You need a temperature controlled chest freezer or something along those lines to brew a lager. No other way around it. I even use one and I live in the Northeast. Using ambient temps (whether basement or garage) even in the winter is challenging.

I guess this is more the post I was thinking about. I did not however take "red headed stepchild" as an actual comparison between the two products.
