There is a possibility that this flatlander will soon be relocating to the Green Mountain State this summer...in the process of some job interviews with two strong possibilities. One is in St. J and the other is about 30 minutes north of Brattleboro in Rockingham. I've been up to VT to do the Burlington/Waterbury/Montpelier/Greensboro Bend beer circuit and have checked out all of the close beer spots on BA. I am wondering if there are any BAs in these areas getting together regularly for tastings and whatnot. Curious to see what kind of social opportunities there might be for a North Carolinian coming up.

There has a been a few on the Western side of the state, Middlebury/Burlington/etc. But not many BA's in NEK (North East Kingdom), which is where I am and HF is also considered to be in NEK. There are a few in Southern Vermont tho. Realize that Vermont is a small state, but areas are like night and day in comparison. IE: Calling Vermont a blue state, is hard when you don't live near Burlington.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I totally get that most of the rest of the state is pretty different than Burlington. We're actually really pumped about possibly getting back to small town life (lived in a small Western NC town before coming to Raleigh). Just interested in feeling out opportunities to meet people close to these areas...if we end up in the NEK, I'll hit you up!

It's a ways off, but the Summer Gathering is usually a pretty big beer share, campsites normally available.

It appears that we get together in the Northwest more frequently than in other parts of the state. If you end up in St. J the overnite festivals at HF turn into pretty cool bottle shares.

This looks fun...if we do get make the move, we'll likely be up in VT by then and would be down to drive a few hours for it. And the HF fests are definitely in the cards, regardless of whether we're up in the NEK or down south.

If you move into Southern VT, I'm sure we can fit you into our schedule. There are only a few regulars here from the SVT area that post and get together. There is at least one BA get together in the South each year. Most other events are rather lossely organized and off the Radar. At any rate...You aren't more than 3 hours away from anywhere in the state.

we don't take kindly to your types around here......but i'm always up for a beer, so long as life doesn't get in the way.

OT...Deanhead, you ready for some decent snows? sounds like we may finally get some.

I was off a few days last week and got to enjoy the 2-4" daily dustings. Heading to Ludlow this weekend with my kids for some turns at either Magic or Okemo.

I promise I won't drive like a maniac, come to town meeting and make all sorts of ludicrous demands, or complain about the cold...and I brew beer and smoke a mean rack of ribs, and I'm always willing to share!

Stick as close to Burlington as possible. The rest of the state is a wasteland beerwise, jobwise, culture wise, etc...

Both Rockingham and St. J are a bit out of the way beer-wise, and otherwise. St. J is only an hour from HF and a little further from Waterbury. Rockingham has slightly quicker access to southern New England if you care about that. Southern VT seems to lag behind the northern half of the state in general. If you like winter sports, especially snowshoeing, snowmobiling, xc skiing, you will be happier up north.

I was born in western NC and my mom retired there. There are similarities to rural VT, but I think you'll like VT better.

Besides being prettier and having closer access to Boston and NYC- I can't think of one thing better in Southern Vermont then northern VT.

We're big skiers and would be super close to Okemo if we were to end up in the south, and that looks pretty awesome to us.

We have skiing in the north too  Burke is small, but a good area. Especially if you like mountain biking during the summer.

An avatar picture is worth 1000 words...

Thanks for the tips, folks. We're interviewing next week, and depending on how that goes, we may or may not have the choice between St J and Bratt area.
