What beer are you drinking now? #124

drinking my brewing partner's holiday beer, special version. it's a riff on a free form recipe i wrote a few years ago that's basically a belgian influenced imperial stout.

his current version is a lot more belgian (dropped my beloved special B malt, but switched out my beloved 1728 scottish ale yeast with a belgian abbey strain, and added date syrup), and is aged on oak cubes with bulleit bourbon added. love bulleit. resulting beer is sweet, complex, with some nice roasted barley flavor highlighting everything (used perfect amount IMO). dropped the oats/oatmeal entirely, but the mouthfeel is still good.

great stuff.

 

Tonight:

Very nice stuff. Nicely robust for a 5.5% brew, and very balanced roasted flavors. Oyster flavor really isnt that strong. Really enjoyed this.


This is excellent Scotch ale as expected. Great complexity and balance of malt flavors. Meantime is completely underrated as a brewery.


Still got half a case. Having some in a bit.

I was all excited to post this picture until I saw the OP's post of this same exact beer. Oh well, I will say I prefer FBS but both beers are in my top 5

 

Unfortunately a Fat Tire... nothing personal, but its not my first choice...
just stuck in the middle of nowhere, and its all they had besides bud light.

great stout it is.... i had a coffee stout from goose island the other day, and it was spectacular

 

Tailgating at the Hurricanes game included Alpha King, 12 Cycle IPA, CCB Florida Cracker and Hotter Than Helles. Then I had a Carolina Pale Ale and Foothills Torch Pilsner at the game.

Now Im settling in with an Olde Mecklenburg Copper since I have a 3 hour delay tomorrow

 

First time having this since last spring.

This beer makes me so excited for the camping season coming in just a few short months. Anyone else out there with some love for the Schlenkerla beers? Smoky goodness. Aroma reminds me of the times when I basically have to stick my head in the campsite fire pit to get that pesky thing started.

 

My wife just surprised me with two Sierra Nevada (&Dogfish Head) IPA glasses. These are the SN logoed ones. Had to christen them properly. I need to make dinner for her more often.

 

I was thinking about picking one of these up, but I've never tried it and was a little nervous to drop 8 bucks on a bomber of this. Maybe I'll have to see if the store still has it.

 

Gotta say, I'm loving what Pipeworks is doing. Another winner!
