I spend most of my beer budget buying their beer myself. as Sam Adams does not make a standard porter, or stout.
It's also the only APA I buy.

I am not ashamed of my SN love. But I love a wide range of breweries/beers. SN is a leader in craft beer - no doubt. I love that they are green and have consistently awesome beers. It's hard to ask for more. I could drink Celebration and Ruthless Rye year round.

Silly argument - SN has been at the game for a long time and make some great stuff but to suggest they're heads above everyone else is nuts.

Think I'll start a new thread - best US brewery - let's see how many folks go with SN.... curious if they'd make the top five... or ten... or....

SN is a great and creative brewery. SN has been great for the craft beer market. SN has great price points. Calling any of SN's beers "great" is drinker dependent. I love Glissade, but that's just me.

I mean, I think that if many of Sierra Nevada's beers were made by a smaller, more hyped brewery with a much smaller production line and distribution, they would be much more sought after and valued. But, even so, nobody is really downrating the quality of the beers here, and also, they're not making a lot of very experimental, small batch brews that would fall more into the whale category.

I don't think they are. Alot of their IPAs, taste the same to me, except they have different names. Bigfoot has gone downhill to me in the last 2 years.

Well said. Couldn't agree more. SN is top-shelf stuff.

I know a lot of people seem to hate success. I think larger craft brewers like SN might not be rated as highly as smaller ones just because of their success. At least, it seems that way to me. Some people demand rarity, or experiMENTAL crap. A lot of folks just are not satisfied with great, no they demand blow-your-socks-off absolute perfection. If that isn't elitism, what is??

SN at least deserves major kudos for proving that it is possible to produce excellent quality ales/beer on a mass/national if not worldwide level, and that you can hit the big-time without sacrificing quality(or selling out).

Check their review averages - most are very high and favorable. Next, check their number of reviews - maybe more than any other brewery (assumed without checking.) So even if people aren't talking about Sierra, they're drinking and reviewing them. And why not make a Beer Geek Spectacle over Sierra Nevada? Well, everyone pretty much knows about them, they're available nationwide, and most people have already tried their main lineup, so there is little reason to "hype" them. However, you do make a sound case for buying Sierra Nevada products due to their relative affordability as compared to the rest of the Craft Market. Personally, Sierra Nevada is in my top three for most purchased, along with Stone, and Lagunitas.

Seriously, who talks shit on Sierra Nevada? There are a couple of people like that I'm sure, but based on numerous SN threads I've seen, people usually like SN when they're trying to drink on the cheap because their beers are great for the $. If they want to spend more, they go with something better. SN just doesn't do anything to blow your socks off, but who cares? Elitism is the last thing I think of when someone is drinking a $20+ bottle. I just think, "that guy decided to crack open something good." Besides, not too many people can afford those to have them all the time and talk down about SN. Oh, and demanding something perfect is perfectionism, not elitism

From an economic standpoint, your dollar is well spent with SN. They're consistently at the top of the scale for a wider distribution beer. Of course this is just one persons opinion.

I really just about everything SN makes, I think their quality is consistently above what might be their closest comparison in this world: Boston Beer Co....

Ok..so I'm no beer specialist. I used to be straight bud,or american macro brewery type. You know the guy. Then I started homebrewing. I started sampling, venturing out so to speak. I have come to really like the European brews. The Germans and Belgiums got it going on,no doubt. Pilzner Urquell, Duval, even St. Paulie...better than American Macro. But, look at it this way. Most of those folk have been brewing for ages. Sierra, not so long. And I love thier estate style, eco friendly methods. Wouldnt that kinda hamstring many others? And have you tried the new release? Ruthless rye?..Didnt get such high scores from this site if I remember. But,,Try making it..let alone growing it and making it..Hats off to all brewers!..We're a brother, sisterhood no doubt..love it,love the help..Have a homebrew!

SN is more reasonable priced than other, supposedly "better" brews, but I wouldn't call it cheap(as in price) either.

People say wider distribution as if it's a bad thing. I think SN is excellent from a quality standpoint, as well. I really wouldn't call $30-50 a case cheap or low-price, either.

Sierra Nevada is a great brewing co. They helped get a lot of us started on craft brew and have special releases that still keep me interested(southern hemi, north hemi, estate, 30th anny, hoptimum, etc...)

There's 2 problems with this last bit of your post. First your attacking beer knurds on a beer knurd website. Second Sierra Nevada is not the best bottled beer around. Not even Close. They have many beers that are only on tap at the brewery that I'd like to try. When it comes to bottles they don't have much that can compete with "The Best". I do understand what your getting at about some beers be way overpriced. But your statement saying that a $1.29 beer can compete with Victory at Sea, Black Butte XXIII, Abyss, Pliny, Heady Topper, the list goes on and on. Might want to tone it down.

And... I'm anxiously awaiting some hoptimum 12oz'ers
